Jack & his magic beans

So, when I called my mom sometime mid-last week about coming home, she warned me that Ben (my stepdad) had gotten a new truck because the engine in the old one had died and he wanted a new one anyway. Sounds reasonable, right?

Well, when I got home, I learned the rest of the story.

Apparently, his old truck had died in a Meijer parking lot somewhere, and it was sitting in such a way that was an obstruction to traffic. So AAA towed it to the nearest AAA drop-off location (I still don't really understand that, but we'll let it go), which happened to be a random restaurant near the Meijer. So Ben, hungry after all this nonsense, goes in and gets some food and eventually starts telling an employee (waitstaff? busboy? who knows) about his recent truck woes. Some random couple dining at a nearby table overhears the conversation and offers their assistance.

Sounds fine up to this point, right?

Well, here's what their assistance included:
They would take the truck (which we just purchased -- new -- within the last five years) off his hands and in return, come spring, they would give him some trees from their nursery.

And he took it.
