Now It Can Be Told. If Anyone Actually WishesTo Hear It.

Where I've Been, What I've Been Doing:

I've been more or less under house arrest these past few weeks, cuffed to the board drawing 16 pages of comics for an expanded version of Larry Doyle's novel, I Love You, Beth Cooper. The book will be published next year to coincide with the release of the film version. The comics were written by Larry Doyle, and they include a yearbook section, several incidents mentioned in passing in the original version, and a four-page coda that takes place some years after the events depicted in the book.

We finished everything up last Tuesday and are still trying to catch up on sleep, but the Supreme Tyrannical Managing Editor of The H.O.F, a.k.a. Emily, is not having any of it. I actually did get a lot of sleep for a few days, but I'm finding I don't bounce back from the marathon sessions very well anymore. Meaning, I still feel like total ass garbage.

Other Stuff the HOF Has Been Up To As Of Late:

We have a gag panel in the Comic Book section of the latest issue of Nick Magazine.

We've also contributed a series of illustrations for the "50 Worst Things About The Internet" article running in the new issue of Mad Magazine.

Say, Isn't Yo Gabba Gabba! Supposed To Start A New Season Soon?:

Yes. Yo Gabba Gabba! starts it's second season on Monday. Here's a preview clip of The Ting Tings covering Altered Images in order to wish Brobee a happy birthday. Speaking of bands appearing on YGG in season two, they've leaked a few names to the press. I'm super-psyched to see Ladytron and Datarock on the docket. Nice.

None of the episodes we worked on are scheduled yet, but we'll let folks know when they'll air when the YGG folks let us know. We haven't actually seen anything from the new season yet other than the Story Time segment we wrote and designed, and the aforementioned Ting Tings clip. We're as in the dark as anyone at home, which is stupid ridiculous. And we won't even see the new episodes, because we don't have cable and things have been so busy we haven't gotten around to bug our producers to send us anything. Oy, what irony is heaped upon the House of Fun.

So, What's Next?

I've finally started working on the script for the first issue of the limited series I'm doing with Jill Thompson for Dark Horse. It's the long-awaited (for some, at least, including myself) continuation of the stories we contributed to the Dark Horse Book Of series (The Dark Horse Book of Hauntings, The Dark Horse Book of Witchcraft, The Dark Horse Book of The Dead and The Dark Horse Book of Monsters) featuring a group of dogs and a stray cat who deal with the supernatural in their formerly quiet neighborhood. The stories won a few Eisners, if that matters to you, I'm personally really fond of them, especially Jill's super-lovely artwork. I'm really excited about the new series and I hope everything comes together as in the past and we end up with some really solid comics that you folks will support and enjoy. Fingers crossed.

FYI, you can see pages 2-6 of the last story Jill and I did ("A Dog and his Boy") here.

Other Than That:

I'm finishing up a dormant Bongo script and  taking some baby steps towards the completion of Milk and Cheese #8. No promises, no guarantees, but 2009 marks 20 years since the first strip saw print, so I'd be a dolt not to try and get it done before the end of next year. I've been a dolt many times before, so, again, no promises, no guarantees. I think I have a web comic kind of thing set up for next year which looks like it'll be fun, a short one-shot strip for a website.

The rest is ether.

Later, skaters.

blah, i love you beth cooper, yo gabba gabba, mad magazine, jill thompson, nick magazine
