001. [ voice ]

[ a small bit of button pushing-- trying (and slowly succeeding, for now) to figure out this strange device-- can be heard, followed by the sound of someone's voice; obviously male, exceedingly calm, especially given the situation; and somewhat French-accented. ]

Ah, this-- "use this," it was? Well, if nothing else, I suppose it may be useful for ( Read more... )

I don't think... any of us are "supposed" to be here, Mister. I know I'm not.

And yet, it was decided that they would be taken here...against their will, it would seem.

I believe that I would remember such an event, if this were the case.

No one I've talked to remembers how they got here. It's really confusing and it-- it makes me angry.

[And that's an absolutely MASSIVE understatement.]

But the people who did it are always hiding and won't tell us anything.

That is interesting.

[ does not sound angry in the least! ]

However, one would expect that, especially in such cases. When faced with such a number of...victims, I suppose-- it seems the most favored way to deal with it is to hide.

Even when seemingly omnipotent, raw materials are still raw materials, in the end.

[He REALLY doesn't like thinking of himself as a "victim", of all things. Cue Phibrizzo's cute facade blanching a little.]

Yeah, it makes sense... but that doesn't make it any less unforgivable disgusting awful. I wish they'd at least explain a little bit.

[Among other things he wishes, most of which are considerably more violent. Strikes are thoughts, for the record.]

One would expect a researcher to inform their subjects of their participation, but this is clearly a case where it seems that such information will not come easily.

[ sounding almost thoughtful there. ]

It's not like we're subjects by choice. I mean-- if they're not even going to let us decide whether or not to be part of their "experiment" or whatever, why would they go through the trouble of telling us anything about it?

[His voice becomes increasingly bitter as he speaks, a few snippets of decidedly-real anger and frustration sneaking into his youthful tone.]

A warning, perhaps. Of course, I do not doubt the fact that such treatment is highly unethical, but what I am truly curious about is their motives-- what they want from us.

[ takes note of the shift in tone, there. ]

Would I be right to guess that you have not been here for a very long time, then?

I don't really care what they want. I just want to leave.

[More like he just wants his powers back, but that's beside the point.]

And yeah, that's right.

Judging by the lengths they have gone to bring us here, I doubt that will be happening anytime soon.

[ he is such a comforting figure here. ]

I'm sure you will find yourself getting used to it soon enough-- it seems to be the natural method of coping among those who have been here for some time.

You sure think on the bright side, Mister. I don't know if I can ever get used to this place.

[A pause, as he ponders Huey's words. He seems to be a very reasonable and intelligent person-- which is honestly something that Phibrizzo wants around. He'll have to keep in touch.]

... I really hate it here.

Is that what you would call it, some sort of optimism? No, it was merely observation-- those who seem more knowledgeable about this place are the ones that seem to have resigned themselves to this fate.

[ oh good, the better he thinks of Huey, the easier it will be to win his loyalty, if assistance is ever required. (: ]

I can't say that it is pleasant, but there is no use in wasting effort fighting this.

Oh.

[Well that makes sense. But he still isn't exactly pleased with the idea of "resigning himself" to being stuck here. He's a little too stubborn for that.]

There has to be something that can be done. To give up and say "it's impossible to leave" is just ridiculous.

I don't believe that leaving is "impossible." Rather, it is simply unlikely. To say something is absolute, especially in such uncertain situations, is a dangerous view to hold. At the same time, if they have some use for us, I do not believe that they will be all too willing to allow us to leave.

[ laughs a bit, lightly. ]

It's all quite interesting, isn't it? Their intentions, their ability...I'd like to be able to find out for myself what is happening.

I don't know if I'd use the word "interesting", Mister, but I see where you're coming from. I'm not gonna stop trying to get out of here, though. 'Cause we can both agree that there feasibly has to be a way, regardless of how difficult or unlikely it might be.

[Aw, you're getting his spirits up. Somehow. LOGIC TRIUMPHS I GUESS?]

[ well, that is...quite rare. go logic! ]

There is always some chance, no matter how unlikely. However, it seems that such things are fully reliant on these "scientists." After all, they are the ones in control of such variables.
