There is nothing like a city to remind me how much I suck at driving. Last time I lived in a city, I didn't have to drive anywhere (thank goodness). I've been driving for years, but I'm a rural driver. Where I grew up, you couldn't even call it suburban. Trees, farms, occasional single lane dirt roads. The biggest surprise I could get was Bambi jumping into the road with one of friends (you would not believe how many of my friends' cars have had a little run in with Bambi).
But now, I live in DC. And oh. my. god. Hello agressive drivers! I did not realize there were two lanes to the roads so that people could park in the right one. Also, I used to live in New England, which means rotaries. I thought I understood rotaries. I was wrong. Ward Circle can eat me. Also, there needs to be more outlets to Wisconsin Ave. Or any outlets at all.
I am such a country hick driver.
Well, now that I got my driving rant out of the way, here's the rest of the update. I've finally moved into my apartment (which really nice). It's only a one bedroom and I have a roomate, but the room is fairly large. My roomate is not here yet; she's coming tomorrow. I think she's from New York and she's a Yankees fan (Boo! Hiss!). But I didn't know she was my roomate until I got here. Let me tell you why:
I found out the name of my original roomate about a month ago. I emailed her because that was the only info they gave, but she never answered me. This is because she was out of the country for a funeral. And she was sick. This girl has no luck. Anyway, she finally gets back to me two days before I leave. But, she's asking me to move to a new room because she needs a caretaker in her illness. So I call Housing Dept. and they hem and haw. I'm coming, and there's nothing to be done about it. When I arrive, they say, surprise! The address you gave everyone is wrong. Here's your new room! And a roomate who doesn't know you're coming! And who thinks she's living alone! Whee!
Blah. Unfortunate circumstances, I guess. There really wasn't anything to be done about it, but it's a really awkward position for me. But, hey. I'm moved in, she's coming, we'll get over it. Pity there wasn't more prep time.
