Friday I watched BSG, and enjoyed it way more than I probably should've, given that the Scar storyline bugged me, the Kat stuff bugged me, and the Anders stuff bugged me. Apparently, I will endure inordinate amounts of eye-rolling for almost!sex between hot pilots.
Saturday I saw Gladys Knight perform at a benefit concert; she may be sixty-ish, but she looks DAMN good and still has pipes. On the way there, my aunt and I were amusing ourselves to no end wondering whether she would be accompanied by the Pips, or if she would be sans Pips. Pipless. UnPipped. I mention this only as part of my ongoing effort to bring the word pipless to the cultural lexicon, and because there was, in fact, a Pip present - her brother Bubba, who was hands-down the most entertaining part of the show. They did this schtick - at least, I thought it was a schtick - with him wanting to sing a song and her not wanting him there. For some reason, though, she spent the rest of the concert apologizing for him, complimenting and thanking her band for backing him up unrehearsed, and thanking us the audience for putting up with him. It was weird. I usually have a pretty finely developed schtick-detector, and her reaction was completely out of left field and extreme for what should've been a cute bit. So...probably not a cute bit? Anyway, good show despite the weirdness, and schtick-detector shuld be part of the lexicon too.
Sunday I went to Disneyland in the morning. (My aunt and uncle got all us So Cal family members annual passes for Christmas to increase family bonding time.) That place... The advertising has it wrong: it's the most UNIRONIC place on earth. No matter how hard I try to maintain my hard-won snarkiness, I'm helpless against it. I mean, there are middle-aged men walking around wearing mouse ears. The opportunities for mocking should be endless, and yet everyone's so damn happy. Not just the children, oh no. Grown men and women unabashedly, unapologetically frolicking. There is frolicking going on! Some of it by me! ...Very uncool, I know, but I always have a great time.
Sunday afternoon was devoted to football-watching and beer-drinking. I started the game leaning Steeler-ward (I have an aunt in Pittsburgh), but the blatant officiating bias (how many sexual favors do you suppose Bill Leavy received in exchange for handing the game to Pittsburgh?) and my ever-present need to root for the underdog made me a Seahawks fan by the end. Bastards.
Monday I made walnut brownies, mint brownies, chocolate chip cookies, and chicken parmesan, all yummy- and just mentioning them makes me really hungry. Food now.
