More comprehensive episode thoughts

First of all, could this show be any slashier? Short of it being canon? What am I saying, it's already canon. How doth they love each other, let me count the ways! Oh, I don't have to, you all know what I'm talking about. I do love how John keeps bringing it up, though. It was one thing in the first episode when they were still getting a sense of one another, but by the third? What he said at the swimming pool? Goodness, John~! "People might talk," indeed. No, but really, the way their relationship develops, so subtly but really deeply, is just beautiful and I love it. There are just so many little things, important things, and it's perfect. Sherlock doesn't want to care, but he does.

Back to the beginning now: Sherlock's fits are my favorite. You are such a six year old, Sherlock, holy crap. Pouting and flouncing and turning his back on John in a huff, but then immediately sitting up with "Where are you going?" when John starts to leave. Oh, sweetie, you have no idea how to deal with people when you actually want something from them that isn't information, do you?

I love the blog tie-in about the solar system. It cracked me up when I read it, and it was delightful to have it show up in the show! Mixed media in my entertainment, yes please!

Does John... just, exude gayness or something? Because he seems to have shit luck with girls but guys are all over him what the fuck. I seriously thought at first that he'd called Sherlock in to save him from being hit on by the creepy brother, rather than because he thought the cat was the murder weapon.

I love that John is out solving mysteries by himself! Trying to help! And maybe he's not perfect at it but hey, he is pretty damn good for not being Sherlock!

Did anyone else find the Golem thing seriously bizarre? For one thing, it seemed kind of out of nowhere and rather incongruous, and then the fight scene was just. Trippy beyond measure. It felt like it was out of a completely different show. That scene definitely left me going "What the fuck did I just watch?"

Jim Moriarty! I did like that, I know some people didn't but I thought it was really clever and I did not see it coming! If you look at Molly's blog, Jim first shows up and introduces himself to her on the post where she uses Sherlock's name for the first time. He's clearly got a search engine going that pings him whenever Sherlock's name comes up anywhere. Nice touch! As for the actor, I am a little torn over his performance. On the one hand, I loved how dynamic he was--another Mycroft wouldn't have been very interesting. On the other hand, it did seem like he was trying a little too hard to be John Simm. He doesn't quite have a dynamic enough face for some of the expressions he was pulling. Overall, though, I think I quite liked him and his idiosyncracies. ("Playing" gay, Jim? Sure...)

THE ENDING. It's one thing to leave us with a "season finale" cliffhanger for a show that's going to be continued, but at the time this was made it wasn't going to be and that is what just blows me away that they pulled such a balls-out move. It's amazing, it's infuriating, and I delight in it! I saw some speculation ahead of time that they might do this, but I really didn't think they would because in my experience, television does not do such risky things. But I think I must start giving the BBC more credit because I have several times had my expectations corrected by Doctor Who as well, when I think "Oh man, it could be XX, or they could do YY... but naaah, that's too interesting/risky, they wouldn't do that." And then they do! I am beginning to think that it is just American television that is too predictable in that regard. It's not that I always know what's going to happen, but I understand the formula. But the BBC doesn't care about the formula. <3
