So last night I went to see Type-O Negative play, finally, with Christopher and some of his friends. There was this atrocious cartoon music playing at 80 zillion decibels before the show started, while the roadies were setting up, and seriously, it felt like we were on the elevator ride to Hell.
But then they came on, and Pete Steele looked different than I thought he would...he was much skinnier, for starters, and more white-looking than pics I'd seen of the band had led me to believe. Like, he looked, well, Polish (which is his background), and I was expecting Greek for some reason. I think the older pics of him with facial hair made me get this impression.
Anyway, among the songs from their new album which I haven't even heard yet, they played Christian Woman, Black No. 1, and Love You To Death, which were awesome. I would've liked them to play Be My Druidess, Wolf Moon, and My Girlfriend's Girlfriend, but no dice. What I love about concerts is basically, you're paying to be in the same room with the band, so as to sing along with them to their songs. Which is just cool. Like, imagine writing along with your favorite authors, or painting with your favorite artists--you can't really do it (okay, well, maybe Bob Ross is an exception). But you can sure sing along with your favorite musicians. You can personally FEEL their art as they recreate it for you.
Type-O have long, drown-in-the-melody songs, for those of you not familiar with them, so seeing them live is pretty sweet, especially when you're familiar with the songs.
Before the concert, though, I was on the bus coming home, and of all people, Gene got on at one point! So I said hi, and he got off at my stop with me and we hung out for a bit and talked, which was cool. He also happily took my Manson stone Holywood figurine off my hands, which was cool since I've been looking for a home for it for quite some time.
Oh, and yesterday I finally cancelled my internet service in NY, which Horus was supposed to be paying me back for, and transferring into his own name, and of course not doing either. The whole thing didn't make any sense though, since he has no access to a computer anyway, but Todd does. Well, that's Horus for you--tell him he doesn't need something, and by God, he's gotta have it.
friends,
