www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-obREu5_7Y This is a song I wrote on March 3, 2022 after watching in horror for the last week the atrocities being committed by Russian soldiers at the order of Putin. For the tune I used a much used old Scottish tune, and got inspiration from an Irish song "Ballad of Mairead Farrell" for the words. The song is a little rough, but this is for the brave Ukrainian people that are standing strong in the face of impossible odds. As long as Ukraine lives as a country, their heroes will live on, with gratitude, forever in their hearts. Glory to Ukraine. - John Hopkirk.
Do not stand on my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep
Do not stand on my grave and cry
When Ukraine leaves I do not die
Russians came to take our land
Against their power we bravely stand
For Ukraine’s freedom we answer the call
We will resist Ukraine will not fall
Ukraine will prevail I do believe
From Odessa shores to beloved Kiev
We will defend thought our land
For Ukraine’s freedom we proudly stand
So do not stand on my grave and weep
I am not there I do not sleep
Do not stand on my grave and cry
When Ukraine lives I do not die
I see our flag stand tall and free
The butcher Putin will also see
That he can’t defeat Ukraine
This land of freedom will rise again
Our blue and yellow we proudly wave
In this land of freedom we try the same
For our children’s future we will not be
Under Putin’s thumb, we will be free
So do not stand on my grave and weep
I am not there I do not sleep
Do not stand on my grave and cry
When Ukraine lives I do not die
GLORY TO UKRAINE
