somebody hold on to it

I was originally going to make a random post with random things in it. Here's the ultrashort version of that:
  • I'm still losing weight thanks to nursing, nearly 30 pounds less than my pre-pregnancy weight. My wedding and engagement rings roll around on my finger a lot, and it's apparently not because my hands get cold easily.
  • Maddy still has ( Read more... )

a novel idea, zachary, madison, employment tales, health, adventures in nursing

Thanks, hon. I know we did everything we could, and we had all gotten him safely to the hospital last week and he was doing well before. I keep hanging onto that. I'm just sad for him and for his family, that he was that tortured. :(

I'm so late in reading this. I hope everything's going better for you now, but I couldn't help but wonder... Do you really lose weight if you're nursing? I've never heard about it that way. I know that it gives babies better immunity and it helps the mother's breast from sagging, but I never knew that nursing could help with losing pregnancy weight.

I think it depends on how much you're producing. My friends that didn't have a lot of milk didn't lose much. It's generally 500 calories extra a day that are burned off by nursing. It prolly also helps more if you don't gain much to start. With both of my kids, I only gained 25 pounds and have lost 55 each time. I exclusively pump, so I know how much I'm getting out in ounces. I did 30-36 in the beginning with my daughter when i was pumping every 2 hours. With my son, it was more like 55-59. So I burned off a LOT of calories. :)

Woah. Go girl. Thanks for that bit of information. It's useful to know and I'm surprised I haven't heard it anywhere. Gosh, with this awesome piece of information I wonder why some mothers don't try harder to breastfeed their babies.

My guess? Because it's hard work to keep that up and still work full time. this country doesn't value motherhood as much as money and doesn't respect the time it takes to do this.
