So christmas of last year, shannon (my older brother) basically pushes me into his car and says "YOU GOTTA LISTEN TO THIS!"
Normally that means I'll be regailed for 30 minutes of really loud music I cant make heads or tails of. This time was much the same.
And then he makes me borrow the CD. Whoppee! I go back to genocide alley after christmas break, and promptly forget about it. January found me wanting new music to listen to though, so I popped it in the ole CD spinner audio device thingy and gave it a whirl. And y'know, sometimes when you listen to music shannon likes at a volume that doesnt collapse vital organs it can be pretty pleasant.
The band is called Clutch (website:
http://www.pro-rock.com/ ), they're from maryland, I've only listened to the newest 2 albums, but it's a good solid sound. I liken it to hard rock blues...or bluesey hard rock, it depends on the song really. Heavy on the guitars, light on bass, and strong rhythm. Most songs also have either a church organ or piano or both. All are well played (iff'n you ever get a whif of the bass). The band also happens to be exceedingly talented lyrically, with allusions and medaphors to satisfy any smug intellectualism.
That said, they dont re-invent the wheel. Dont look to them for experimental forrays into sound or interesting production techniques, you just wont find them. Overall though, I peronally enjoy them a great deal, and I thought you should give'em a listen.
