I've been lazy about posting on LJ the past month, mostly because of how hectic real life was. I didn't want the added pressure.
But I always knew that I'd be jumping back in with both feet once the new year rang around. Then I saw someone else pimping the Fandom Snowflake Challenge, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to get back into the habit of posting. So here goes.

Day 01
In your own space, talk about why you are doing the Fandom Snowflake Challenge? What drew you to it as a participant? What do you hope to accomplish by doing these challenges? Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
I don't remember seeing this pimped around before, but that doesn't surprise me. I have a tendency to ignore new challenge-y type things at this time of year, mostly because I'm recovering from fic stuff in December. But for whatever reason, it caught my eye a couple days ago so I went and checked it out. And...it reminded me of all the reasons I've always loved being a part of a fandom. I'm not always a vocal participant, and I hate drama, but that sense of passion and love for a show or a book or a movie or whatever feels so much like home to me. I'm hoping that taking part in this will keep me grounded in all the things I've loved about fandoms for the last fifteen years.
Plus, it's uber laid back, so if I miss a day or something doesn't ping at me, I don't have to feel obligated to post. Since I feel so fringe-y in fandoms at times--I'm mostly interested in writing and reading than anything else--it's good to have an out in case I don't relate.
Who knows? Maybe I'll end up meeting new people, too. That would be nice. I'm nowhere near ready to stop writing Merlin fanfic, but I wrote Black Sails for
yuletide this year, and man, that urge is not going away. I know nothing about that fandom, so maybe I'll get pointed in the right direction for that.
