Just got back from the vet. We saw pretty pictures of Mr. Pibs' insides. Anyways, they think he has Inflammatory Bowel Disease. The walls of his intestines are more than twice as thick as they should be and this kind of thing is usually the result of inflammatory bowel. So the bleeding would be essentially hemeroids. He also has some enlarged lymph nodes which account for the elevated white blood count. They aren't terribly enlarged, but this means that in the unlikely case of this not being IBD it could conceivably be lymphoma. I'm not too worried about that, though. We're treating for IBD with the most hypoalergenic food they make and some pills. If this doesn't work, they'll biopsy (can't do it with a needle, would have to open him up) for lymphoma, but with any luck it won't come to that.
He's happily eating his new food at the moment (I had to take away his food early last night so they could see his insides better - he was not amused by that) and licking at his bald tummy. He seems to be a little confused about what happened, even though he was really good during the procedure.
