Bizarre Skill

So, it seems that I have a talent for finding random groups of people and jumping in headlong. This was first made blatantly apparent* in Boston when I went down for a week to house sit for Jason and got adopted by the Boston dancers + brought back for BIX. Then it happened to a point with the Rennies in that I met Kat at GNEW (in Maine) and wound up working with her the next weekend at a faire in Connecticut. Now I'm doing it a little closer to home.

Thursday night I went to a Clue themed burlesque show at The Palace of Wonders in DC. "Miss Scarlet", (a.k.a. Miss Joule), ((a.k.a. Talia)) did her shtick with a lead pipe that was really a short staff/long baton lit on fire. After the show we started chatting and I was asking about burlesque in the area and fire stuff. We parted ways, I started to leave, then she came running after me to talk about the DC Burner email list, which led to another long conversation where she gave me a ton of information, plus her email address so I could email her and she could vouch that I'm a good little human and should be added to the DC burner folks' event list.
Friday I got an email from Booger, the guy in charge of the list, adding me to the group and welcoming me. He also mentioned the Friday night happy hour they were doing, followed by a variety show at POW. So I went to the happy hour thinking I'd probably head to dancing (big blues workshop weekend in DC right now) instead of the variety show. As the happy hour wore on, I realized that carny freaks were going to win out over blues dancing to a live band.
At the variety show, there was a lot of talk about how I was definitely going to need to go to Burning Man next year, and I should really get a ticket pulled together to go to Playa Del Fuego (in Delaware) this year (next weekend). I'd heard about PDF before (in fact I went on a date last December with one of the organizers, which will make this a little more interesting...), but tickets sold out in 15 minutes so I figured I wasn't going to be able to get a hold of one.
Lo and behold, what arrives in my Inbox today but a message from someone who can't go and needs to give their tickets to someone who can go + do their volunteer duties. I like volunteering.

Moral of the story: I meet crazy folks and wind up doing silly things.
Like next weekend, when I'll be out *somewhere* in Delaware, surrounded by things on fire, being caught up in a completely new experience.
Excited/Scared/Happy/Nervous/Giggly/Holy-shit-I-don't-want-to-fuck-up/WOOT!

*I suppose it could be said that I jumped pretty thoroughly into the Portland scene, too, but that was a more gradual ingratiation.
