Thanks to everyone who gave suggestions on my last post! I think we've found a possible itinerary. We're still not 100% sure that we're going to do this but we are looking seriously into it, and we are getting more and more excited about the possibility of really doing it. We are looking at going early to mid-May 2012 and we will be taking our ( Read more... )

Personally, I'd probably go for Vienna as the short one. We were there for... 4.5 days I think? and we did a daytrip to Bratislava on one of them. I definitely saw all that I wanted to of the city.

Again personally, I'm not fond of the budget airlines, aside of Brussels Airlines which is not one of those cheapy ones. You get what you pay for, and they're really crummy. I'd advise against it and just either taking a train or finding the best deal from real airlines. Plus, those small ones always land at alternate airports that are typically like an hour out of the city. Real pain. The metro in Budapest is awesome and will get you wherever you want to go; Vienna you can walk almost anywhere but the metro will also take you anywhere a little further off; the places in Germany I've been have all had plenty of buses/trams/metros to get anywhere as well, I imagine where you're going will also.

I will try to remember to come back (we're on our way out the door to the library now) and remember about the must-see places in Budapest & Vienna! And for Budapest the place we stayed was great, it was a hotel but it was an old apt building, the room had a kitchen, dining table, bathroom, and an upstairs with a double bed & single bed, and it was **really** cheap, and in a great location! No food provided but there's a few grocery stores several blocks away, you can simply pick up breakfast supplies and keep them there. If you're interested, I'll find the name for you.

I am definitely interested in the name of the place you stayed at! It sounds like it might be what we're looking for! I don't mind not having breakfast included if it is cheap enough and there are groceries nearby.

The place is here, don't be put off by it being a "hostel"!! As it says in the description, they're apartment buildings, and they are super excellent, and cheap! My relatives stayed in a ritzy hotel and came to see our room 'cause we were raving about it and they were like, OMG We went to stay here!! hahaha. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat, totally recommended!
