Since I have been focused on work lately I have not posted anything. Also since I have been focused on work, not much else has been happening. Last week I took a few days off and went to New York to see Spamalot. It is a Broadway show based on Monty Python's Search for the Holy Grail. It was absolutely hilarious, I enjoyed it muchly. I am glad I was able to see it with David Hyde Pierce and Tim Curry in the cast, as they are leaving the show at the end of the year.
Noo York was fun as well, went to a couple nice restaurants - Gramercy Tavern and Lupa. We also managed to make it to Dawat for Indian food after the show. Holiday time in NYC is pretty, and pretty crazy. It even snowed on Monday evening. I managed to bring back a couple things from the MoMA Design Store and a headcold.
This past weekend was increasingly fun, even as my health deteriorated with the cold. The main focus of this weekend was the Virginia Highland Tour of Homes on Saturday and Sunday. My house was one of 7 featured in the tour, and I was quite honored. Over the two days there were nearly 1,000 people through the house, and everyone seemed to enjoy it. The Tour coordinators were very professional and had a wonderful staff of volunteers in charge of the house and managing all the people. Each house had a food tasting by one of the neighborhood restaurants. My house had the chef from Murphy's, who made braised beef short ribs in zinfandel sauce with celery root and potato puree. He and his assistants were wonderful as well, and I was humbled to have a professional chef using my kitchen. I didn't plan to stick around much during the tour, but I was having such a great time I ended up staying the whole time - except for a couple hours when I went on the tour and saw the other houses.
A couple of interesting things - one of the volunteers in my house brought her boyfriend by, and it turns out he went to my high school. He was a couple years ahead of me, but he also worked at Price Waterhouse during the time I was there. It was interesting talking to him about the old school and the old neighborhood, and how ironic it was that his girlfriend was assigned to my house. Another person on the tour, Tom Klein, was in my accounting class at Emory, and it turns out he actually lives diagonally behind me. It was great to catch up with him, we exchanged numbers and invited each other to our parties this weekend.
After the end of the tour on Sunday evening, the tour organizers had a party for the homeowners, volunteers, and staff at Vine. I am not much for cocktail parties and didn't really plan to stay long, but I got to talking with so many people that I lost track of time and stayed until 10:30.
On Saturday night I went to
anddreamofsheep's party with
vergence. We had a wonderful time at Stuart's fabulous house, with an expert spread of holiday goodies and some excellent wine. I kept catching snippets of interesting conversations each time I passed through the kitchen to get more food or wine. ;-) I also got to pet Stuart's sweet kitties. Meow!
I am ready for this week to be over. What day is it again?
