Acropolis!

The Acropolis really is the crowning glory of Athens. Today we roamed around it, seeing the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the Theater of Dionysos, the deconstructed temple of Athena Nike, the Erechthion with the porch of the Karyatids, and the Parthenon itself. I felt like I was truly walking on hallowed ground. Another sparkling sunny day, another photography paradise. Next we went down the hill to the ruins of the ancient agora, with the temple of Hephaestos pretty much intact, presiding over the remains. Lunch was at a sidewalk cafe overlooking the Roman agora, I had lamb and fries. Afterward we went through the Roman agora again, taking more pictures, then we were back up the hill to the site of the Pnyx. This is where democracy was born, a large open hillside where all of Athens met and first collectively elected their leaders. Not much left there now except a beautiful view of the Acropolis and Athens.

Saturday night was a different story. We had difficulty finding a restaurant around Kolonaki, which is the Buckhead of Athens with all the high-end stores. We ended up at Yo! Sushi for mediocre sushi. We weren't very hungry anyway, after the previous night's feast and a late lunch. Then we were off to another club, Kazarma. After a half hour walk, and trying to find the crazy address, we finally entered what has to be the smallest "club" I have ever been in. And it was packed full of people surrounding a central bar, with very little room to move. Pretty much a waste of time and money. Overall, a great day and a disappointing evening.
