What's been happening to me 14.6.2001

Hello, everyone.

Let me see, I have my first exam at Kings today. Well, not my first exam ever (otherwise I'd be chucking comme hell) but my first final exam. It is a general achievement test to make sure we are not cheating-in humanities and social science, maths and (pure) science and technology. There are 70 multiple-choice questions and-MON DIEU-two writing tasks. The first writing task was an analysis (I hope I haven't stuffed it up too badly) about motorcycles. I thought a good deal about my Uncle Brian, who died when he was very young (under 25) on a motorcycle. I hope he wore the right clothes and everything. Did you know that NINETY-FOUR PERCENT of motorbike injuries/accidents are caused by human factors. Of course with the stupidity of human nature and the love of speed (or the NEED for speed in some cases) you would not be surprised. Shows how bloody naive I am.

Second task was about the fair go and pursuit of excellent. It was point of view and there were six quotes. I covered them fairly equally, using pertinent examples to our lives today that inspired them. I really went deep into the Stephen Hawking comparison. There is a guy at Cambs Uni (and he can't be the only one) who is on telly at the moment. His name is Chris and he has Asperger syndrome. He is on this face show and talks about how he taught himself to recognise faces. Should be interesting. I thought how ironic it was, me doing it on the computer and arguing in favour of individual merit. It gives me a fair go and I will have my excellence recognised, or as Helen Keller said about similiar assistive technology, it at least makes my mistakes clear.

Multiple choice questions pretty good. Physically I have differences with the format of the paper. There are two answers equally logically correct, and Madame told me that I had a logical mind. Well I'd been keeping it under a bushel for all these years! I'm glad I can talk with my friends, these are Michelle, Lisa, Kirby, Tara and Brooke. Brendan Hughes was there too but I could hardly recognise him. He had ALL his hair cut off but not shaved. It won't be very long until Red Nose Day, in which every SRC member must do her duty. We are going to Pearl Harbour at the end of the term, can you believe that! Heard Rachel Herbst say in disapproval that it would be Titanic-ish. I loved the Titanic but do feel a bit dubious about Pearl Harbour. Anyway, it's not the movie that counts, I ought to know that from Third Year uni when we saw Godzilla. Yerk. I suppose movies are one of the things that favour blokes somewhat.

Had Mr Williams' daughter, Kirsten, supervising me, during exam. Tried not to make too much noise going to the toilet. The exams are in Kings College library. Now if you don't know the place, it looks quite ordinary inside but there are stacks of books and computers. Only Katie has seen Pearl Harbour thus far and she says it's a bit long. Just read a review for Dancer in the Dark. That is the most emotionally harrowing film I have seen ever. I could so relate to Selma and her problems and her ambitions. The end was really terrible. At least the son had the operation. Kirsten is really nice looking, she was reading Visible Panty Line by Gretel Killeen. She was very reasonable to me, especially telling the times. The problem was that the computer clock was SO wrong, at least an hour and a half behind. Madame said she was really proud of me for keeping to time.

After this, first thing I do is get onto the Net and read my letters. Especially one from Josh of the My Kid is Rad site (still have to respond about Creative Expression-Writing and Drawing) about my past life. Also lots of letters from soc.culture.polish, including one from a founder that tells me he regrets the right ethnic/political bitching that goes on in there. Read my message in Google Groups. I will treat it as good clean fun. Have just downloaded Fame. I love the Insommniac version. Have also just joined Polish and Central European forum, and got a LiveJournal letter from someone. Two Girlsown digests as well.

I think I will try the Writer's Workshop or at least recommend it to Sindhu and Shruti. Opinions on school stories are growing. That reminds me, Josh was so wonderful. Recently he has had a birthday he is 53 (the same age as Robert). Robert's birthday is on November the 16th. He wrote me about my gift and his wife's experiences in Europe especially Sweden. All the odd coincidences in someone's life.

Yesterday was very Usenet-focused, then I was inspired to follow up a Girlsown posting about Mary Sue which is a whole different culture. The reference was to Joey Bettany's singing. Joey Bettany is the main character at the Chalet School and the first pupil. You can't imagine how big the Chalet School has had an influence on me. Read all the Mary Sue tests I was interested in then navigated somehow to Avatars, and that's how I found Kelle. I would so check out her site, especially Bad Writer which gives me world's worst headache.
