So is everyone in uproar/all tingly over the new Colin + Johnny Capps interview1. I LOVE JOHNNY! I think at lot of my fears for the future of Merlin have been alleviated

However, I do think that Colin kind of needs to learn to think a little more about what he says before he says it. I get that totally comes from inexperience. But Bradley handles interviews so much better; and particularly the slash topic. Colin certainly does not have to like or agree with it...but if he's being directly asked - knowing that clearly there are people out there who very much hold to those things - I think he needs to try and come up with a way to word his response in a way that's not totally insulting all the people who are going to read it. (Because I'd imagine it's most of the slash fans who will read the article in the first place...)
I thought that too. Bradley handles the whole thing so much better, with his "well I take it as a compliment if it works for some people". He's more diplomatic and generally much more articulate than Colin. When I met them (albeit briefly) I noticed how much more comfortable Bradley seemed to be about being "accosted" by a fangirl than Colin was (lol). I mean, Santiago seems pretty shy but he is also very good at interacting with people (he was so cute with my two year old, Arthur! Totally melted me!), and Bradley, although he obviously hasn't got a clue how to interact with small children, seemed to know what to say to be polite and friendly. But Colin just looked uncomfortable and ran off at the first opportunity lol (I was a bit upset by that at first although I'm trying to accept its his personality) . . .
Colin isn't very articulate at all, he seems to stumble with his words a lot and his interviews are full of "umms" and "you knows" and "likes", this suggests to me he's nervous or shy and not good at maybe thinking things through before he says them . . .perhaps further evidence of his "shyness"?
Yes, Bradley is definitely more eloquent when speaking and clearly has more "thinking on his feet" type of skills. But that's fine. I don't expect every single person who is in show business to be an incredibly articulate and eloquent speaker. Colin clearly is super shy and from all appearances he seems to be a lot more reserved/introverted.
I wonder if he's read the article and is sitting there going, "Crap. That isn't exactly how I meant to word things!" Maybe he is just really ignorant to the whole slash phenomenon. Which, fine...fair enough. It's not always necessarily the best thing on earth for everyone to become hyper aware of slash on a show. I just hope that in the future Colin has more of an idea in his mind about what he would say if someone asked him about it again. I would assume something simple like, "Well Merlin and Arthur have a very strong friendship and while it's not the intent to make it into a gay love story, invariably it can be interpreted like that sometimes. As long as people enjoy the show, that's what matters the most." Simple, really.
That being said...it doesn't mean I'd be able to come up with something like that on the spot and being totally throw off guard either. So I don't judge. My only concern is that I don't want Colin to tone down his acting because of it. That would be a crying shame and that's my only real fear at the moment. Johnny has made it painfully clear that the show can be viewed as being homoerotic but he doesn't really care and it's not going to impact the stories they write or the scenes they give Merlin and Arthur. Which is EXCELLENT!
