Review: Stars of the Lid - Stars of the Lid and Their Refinement of the Decline
I wouldn't say their is anything theoretically groundbreaking in Stars of the Lid and Their Refinement of the Decline but SOTL's newest offering is simply gorgeous. It is perhaps the best mixture of timbre between lush electronic pads and real acoustic instruments arrangements I have ever heard. Carefully constructed synth pads weave in and out of very precise crescendos and diminuendos of sustained strings and woodwinds. It is delicate and soft but will envelope you in a blanket of thick atmosphere that will make you feel warm and safe and likely cause you to forget about everything with the exception of how happy your ears are.
