Digital Camera Recomendations?

I bought a Canon PowerShot S40 a few years ago and have never really liked it much.  In fact, because I don't like it I hardly ever take any pictures.  It's not terribly large but it is large enough that it is not convenient to just keep in my bag and take with me everywhere.  It is time to replace it.  M. has a Canon PowerShot SD30 which is a nice form factor and takes some pretty nice pictures.  It would be sort of silly to buy the same camera so I'm looking for some other good options.  Anybody have good recommendations?  The key features for me are size and weight (small and light), decent battery life, simple point and shoot functionality (including a decent "Auto" mode), and good compatibility with a Mac (most are but it would suck to have issues in this area).  I have always used Compact Flash based cameras but would like to start using SD as M.'s camera uses that and it would be cool the share cards.  This is not a requirement, though, just a nice to have.  Oh, and I'd like it to boot and take/save pictures quickly.  My current camera is such a dog in this area.

Suggestions or cameras to stay away from?

P.S. All you bike and/or techno fans should listen to Marcus Nicolai's Wheelsucker.  Fun and hot track...
