So, when you decide to take apart an entire department that had been shoddily set up in the first place (staffed with useful people, indispensable to the mission statement - I kid you not, we have mission statements- and not bloody funded by anyone), it might, just possibly, be a good idea to make sure everyone knows why, how, what will replace it, how this will operate, why it has been put forward as a good idea, who will lead, and why, and how that will happen, (repeat ad nauseum).
It might be wise to try that, instead of, oh to pluck an idea out of the ether, having a quick chat with one of the other directors, and saying 'oh just get on with it, will you?' airily. Otherwise, this will happen: half of your staff who already have too much to do (because people keep leaving, and not being replaced), will find themselves worrying about laising between antagonistic teams, whose sole reason for being there has absolutely nothing to do with me! Or my immediate colleagues. Teams who introduce people as 'relationship managers' who later turn out to be the finance dude. And ignore the basic tenets of sharing resources, because the Director has told them that they don't need to worry about anyone else, they are the apple of her wizened eye, so that's ok.
Whilst it has made my life much more interesting, especially in terms of learning how not to scream at the sheer idiocy of it all, I am thinking of changing to something a little calmer, like juggling live chainsaws with weasles down my pants. On a high wire. Blindfolded.
On the other hand of course (starting to breathe) it could be worse. Throbbing Gristle were ok, but dull. The Derek Jarman films were cool, but combined with the dull music (except for the trumpet), were dull. The party was great, pics to follow when I get round to it. Going to see Yi Yi (film) at the ICA on Saturday, followed by a 'lucky dip' ticket for the re-opening of the Festival Hall on South Bank. Going to see Grinderman and Suicide in Kentish Town soon (!!!) Went recently to see Wilko, who were pretty good, though it was interesting to see their fans come alive at the more stompy ones. Went to see a really good docu-film thing about Sonic Youth, at the Horse Hospital off Bloomsbury Square for the Independent Film season; made by teenagers, it was pretty good. They clearly fancied the female bassist, who it has to be said, it rather cool. Ah well.
Onwards. Do carry on.
