back from the dead

I know I'm not the most reliable of correspondents, but hey, at least you should know by now that if I'm not around, I'm off doing other fun stuff. Mostly. Actually, this past month has been relatively quiet on the home front, hence my absolute need to go out last night. Glad I did.

So, what have I been up to?

Well, my darlings, in case you are after any culture, do pop your heads into the Gilbert & George exhib at the Tate Modern before it closes on the 7th May. It really really rocks. My old art teacher always told us to make sure to note the one pic we were going to steal later on - it saves time at the dead of night to go straight to the piece in question - and I must say, that were I to embark on a life of crime, and incidentally had some enormous bloody great big walls, i would have to make off with quite a few. Generally the older ones, the Red Morning pictures or the Dirty Words pictures, possibly some of the later offerings such as Stream or England (1980) which introduce more colour. The hyper-real colour of the later ones, and the ones from the noughties weren't quite as interesting for me, apart from the postcodes. I saw a video piece of theirs in the How to Improve the World at the Hayward, where they basically sat and drank a shipload of gin... I enjoyed myself so much at the Tate show I kind of forgot to get all chin strokey. Maybe I'll endeavour to say something intelligent later.

And now i have a weird thing to share with you. Occasionally when the roll of willing slaves runs out, I needs must perform my own housework, and it was whilst hoovering my bedroom in the sunshine that I noticed a white smudge on my window. I looked a little closer, and suddenly the whole thing came into focus; it was a greasy patch clearly delineating the moment of impact where a sizeable pigeon tried to fly through my window! The wings are at 10 to 1, the head is slightly inclined; you can see the creases in the unfortunate thing's legs, and that it seemed to have mostly closed its eye...I cannot get to the outside of my window, so this may have to stay for a little while. Poor, stupid thing. I looked underneath the window, and there was a small clump of white feathers, so I'm thinking a fox has made off with it. On a more selfish note, I'm just glad I wasn't asleep when it happened.

And one final thing: I am off to Singapore in less than 2 weeks! Yay! Off to see my man, who I miss most terribly. Tra la la.
