Things to do on Tuesday 20th Feb: go and see a re-enactment of the 1984 performance of Einsturzende Neubauten's Concerto for Voices and Machinery at the ICA. Before yesterday all I knew about them was that I am going to see them in April, courtesy of Monkey Boy, who knows about these things. Anyway, to get back to the whole Tuesday thing, in 1984 this group, plus a bunch of other rare creatures, gave a performance at the ICA that was emphatically not a concert, but an attempt to dig through the floor of the ICA, to get to the tunnels that run from the Mall to Buckingham Palace...Reports are a bit sketchy, but according to Mick Sinclair (link below), they got about 21 minutes in before the ICA pulled the plug, fearing for crowd safety. According to the ICA, the performance ran to time, and they tried to stop the audience destroying itself with industrial machinery when it was all over. Think concrete mixers spitting out bits of broken milk bottle, think drills and a grand piano getting utterly trashed. Needless to say, I will be standing, with the Boy Monkey, near the back, getting all voyeur and mimsy, but secretly enjoying what might yet be an orgy of destruction and noise. What they are going to be doing for the rest of the evening I have no idea, but if it should happen that it is a purist's 21 minutes only, I shall be retiring to what is possibly the "coolest" bar in London, to people watch, and drink beer. Should anyone else be up for coming along, I shall see you there! NB, I'm thinking audience is going to be limited for this one, so book in advance if you're particularly interested.

One of the ultimate pleasures in life is to sit, with friends, eat your fill in a leisurely way, chat, relax, have a few drinks, smoke a sheesha or two, catch up with people...bliss. I'm thinking it ought not be kept for birthdays only, so watch this space!
