And not all of it good. This past year has been quite a roller coaster.
First, the bad:
My kitty is dead :(
It started off this summer. She was throwing up a lot and not eating. I took her in, and $1200 and 4 days later, was able to take her home. Her kidneys were failing, and the vet told me I realistically only had 1-2 years left (She was 8, I'd expected another 8 years). It was difficult, but we had our routine down. Every other day I gave her an injection of 200 ml of fluids. She peed like crazy, but was stable and happy. Then right before Christmas, she stopped eating again, started throwing up again. This time, $500 later, it turns out to be Lymphoma...the tumor was almost the entire size of her abdomen. It was all through out her intestines. My little girl had 2 terminal illnesses. There was nothing the vet could do, and my poor kitty had to be put to sleep the Friday before Christmas. She was a Christmas gift 8 years ago from my brother. Seems almost a perfect, circle, no?
My dad has gone down hill significantly this past year. His alzheimers is really in full swing. He has difficulty holding a conversation, constantly groping for the words he can't remember. His mind doesn't quite register what his eyes see any more. Its hard to watch your parents fall apart, and know that there is nothing you or anyone else can do to fix it. For now, I'm doing my best to help my mom, as the stress of caring for him is really getting to her.
Now, the good:
I'm an auntie! Her name is Alexa, she was born in October. She's got reddish hair and blue eyes (so far, that could change as she gets older). She's very...active, to put it nicely! She certainly keeps my brother hopping. She's an absolute beautiful baby, but then, I am a bit biased. If I remember, I'll have to post a picture of her.
My brother's job is transferring them to Connecticut for at least a year. Is this good? bad? I'm not sure, but they are giving me of one their cats, as they don't want to take all 3. Katie is a real sweet cat, and maternal enough that when I get the younger cats I plan on getting (I'm thinking 3-6 months old, a pair?), I'm hoping she'll take right to them. Of course, this means I'll become the crazy cat lady with multiple cats underfoot, but everyone needs a bit of companionship, right?
Unfortunately, the bad is greatly outweighing the good right now. I'm hoping that a new furry companion (or 3) will help...lord knows I need something to take my mind off of it.
