Un bellissimo matrimonio!

Alrighty, so...

On Saturday I flew to Baltimore, MD area for my friend of 20 years' wedding. I seriously did almost nothing except eat from four hours after my plane landed to six hours after my plane left.

Like this:
  • 5pm- begin to munch on yummy Indo food
  • Hours later (maybe around 8:30pm)- eat MORE yummy Indo food and then begin to fall asleep on the floor against a wall with a plate of food in lap and attempt to groggily argue that what's on the plate will be finished once full consciousness returns
  • Proceed to hybernate for twelve hours and then find delight in a strawberry filled powdered donut from Dunkin' Donuts and an absolutely delicious sesame ball with sweet bean flower inside
  • Stop eating long enough to get dressed, go to wedding ceremony, then back to house to shower and then eat some puffy shrimp thingies that taste really good
  • Go to wedding reception sit at assigned place and eat chocolate covered strawberry
  • Change seats and eat another chocolate covered strawberry for someone named David. Sorry, dude.
  • Eat everything on dinner place except for green tops of two baby carrots
  • Eat all of slice of wedding cake.
  • Full! Full?
  • Next morning eat some more Indo food for breakfast along with a VERY large piece of cake... with strawberries!
  • Go get bubble tea with beautiful aforementioned friend
  • Order sushi and eel lunch box, but still full from breakfast. WTF? Tasia not finish sushi!!?? Insane!!
  • Try durian shake. Smells like natural gas. Assult to olfactory. Finish funky stinky shake like a trooper!
  • Mmm...8pm?- Go to Chinese buffet and return three times. Try something called Shark Fin Soup.
  • Be tricked into eating bride's dumpling by thinking it's your own. SNEAKY!***
  • Dessert! Of course.
  • Nap then wake at 3am to travel 1hr to airport to make 5:30am flight back home to get to first class of day on time.
I then proceeded to eat lunch since I hadn't had anything to eat in over 12 hours and actually was hungry for the first time in three days.

***Ok, the dumpling thing. Too funny. After returning with my third dinner plate, I eat my wonton, dumpling, and whatever else I had. I then somehow drop my fork on the floor. Rissa (the newlywed) and her sister kept putting food on Sherif's (bride's brother-in-law) plate and I find this amusing and think about putting food on his place. I look at my plate and see a dumpling and say "Hey! Where'd that come from?" I think for a second and then say "Oh, yeah! That's mine!" and eat it. Suddenly, Rissa says, "Tasia, I love you, but I put that dumpling on your plate." *laughs* To make it worse, the dumpling she put on my plate didn't look anything like the others I'd had. Yeah, she put it there when I bent down to pick up my fork and somehow foresaw me thinking it was mine and eating it. I'll chalk it up to the effects of jet lag due to a 1hr time zone difference.

NOW FOR WEDDING STUFF!

Bridal party. Bridal shower... literally a SHOWER. All go to back patio and Rissa sits in tub and is sprinkled (if they were nice) with warm water with rose petals. Nadia, Rissa's sister, and I love her so much that we each dumped a full cup of water on her. Me, I had to shake out the last few drops to show just how much 20 years means to me.

Then Groom's (Taz) family comes over and give gifts to the bride, who has to stay down stairs because the groom can't see her before the wedding. Bridal party stays hangs and has fun.

Ceremony. Traditinal Indoneasian ceremony combined with Muslim religion and was held in a mosque in DC. My princess Rissa looked like a real princess! *tear*

Reception. More congratulations are offered to celebrate the joining of two families and much celebration!

After the ceremony, Alex and his roommate, Eddie and his g/f, Diana, bride and groom, and I go hang at this lounge for a while and do karaoke. I, being the tough guy of the outfit, decide to have just one single straight shot of Bacardi 151 in addition to the on the house shot to celebrate the occasion. Man, did that jet lag start gettin' to me!

Just outside the mosque after the ceremony.

Good luck on ever finding another recent picture of me where I have a normal facial expression.

Rissa and Marwa (sp?)

Nadia and Sherif

At the reception. Their first dance as husband and wife, and the cutting of the cake. In spite of the fact that I KNEW she could not easily move her head with the hundreds of lbs of traditional pretty stuff on her head, and wasn't able to take full breaths because of her corset, I was half expecting them to break out swing dancing and have the wait staff picking people's jaws off the floor.

As Young MC would say, "It's time to bust a move!"

Collectively, now: AWWWWWWWWW!!!!

CAKE!! Red velvet and ice cream cake. And to the disappointment of many, there was no full facial smear-age for the bride nor groom.

Alas! The stress is reduced for the bride and groom and they're able to enjoy the company of close friends and relax.
Mrs. Rissa and Estaza (Taz)

Alex, who said he was going to have to fight me for his manhood.

And a walrus in terrible need of orthodontics.

I had a great time and it didn't seem like six years has elapsed since the last time I'd seen Rissa.
