Today I walked from my college to a nearby high school that I'll be observing at for the semester. I'm so excited about the possibilities. My mentoring teacher was awesome! He seems so helpful: he gave me a copy of the textbook, his syllabus, sample worksheets, showed me some Powerpoints and graded assignments, and explained some of his teaching philosophies and methods. It was our first meeting during one of his prep periods and I think I'll learn a lot from him because I can tell he thinks deeply about teaching strategies and the best ways to get students to learn. And he also said he wants to get me as involved as possible, so I won't just be sitting in the back of the class, I'll actually work with the students. He said he'll ease me into it by having me work with the college prep students first. I could tell that he wanted to make my experience there as beneficial as possible, and I think I will learn a lot! Hopefully this will prepare me for my student teaching next semester.
