TITLE: Tonight I Can Write The Saddest Line (CHAPTER 3)
AUTHOR: Eunseung8693
PAIRING: Jonghyun x Taemin
GENRE: supposedly Angst, romance
RATING: PG
SUMMARY: Ten years ago, Jonghyun left his friends and the one he loved, taemin. And now he came back to them but things weren't the same anymore. Their friendship was filled with hate and Jonghyun tried to fix it. One by one, his questions got answered. (I know it sucks, summaries are the hardest part of introduction c: )
A/N: The title was taken from Pablo Neruda's poem. This is a challenge fic with Seulrin-unnie, she wrote another story with the same titile with different pairings.

“Hey” Jonghyun felt Taemin’s touch after ten years. It was the same hand that held his a long time ago but the feeling was different, it felt lonely and alone. Jonghyun wanted to pull him into a hug until all the problems vanish and bring him back his Taemin that was always cheerful. His Taemin. “You’re back”

His voice sounded like he was pleading and tired. A lot could happen in ten years after all but his heart never changed.

Did Taemin’s heart change? Is he the only one not letting go?

He sat on the chair across Taemin’s. There was an awkward silence, silence built for ten years. Ten years of running away.

“I’m sorry” Those were the only words in his head right now. The words he kept practicing for ten years. He tried to speak but not words came out. Taemin looked at him wanting to hear the next words but heard nothing. Jonghyun was just there sitting in front of him as if he’s a student getting expelled.

“Aren’t you going to tell me why you disappeared?” Taemin smirked. He bit his lips, trying to stop his tears from falling. “It was all good and then suddenly you were all gone. Not letters, No texts, No calls. Do you know what it feels like going to your house and then your mom will tell me ‘Jonghyun didn’t tell you? He went to America, his plane just left this morning’. Even as a friend you can’t tell me that you’re leaving?”

“Taemin I wanted to tell you”

“Then why didn’t you?” Taemin answered in an instant making him stopped in his track.

Why didn’t I? Because I love you, I had to leave for you, because I don’t want you to be hurt.

He wanted to say those words but he can’t.

“I just can’t” He looked at Taemin and quickly added when he saw his confused eyes “There are things that are meant to be kept as a secret especially when it can hurt other people”

“The pain I will get is nothing compared to the pain I got ten years ago” Jonghyun bowed his head, feeling embarrassed for running away. He was young and stupid back then, he didn’t know what to do but run away until the past becomes the past.
But past was keeping up with him. The memories don’t fade. He can’t run away anymore.

“But it will hurt everyone”

“Everyone?” Taemin asked. In his world there was no we or us anymore, Only I. “Everyone left like you did, Hyung”

“They all left?” But that was impossible. He thought if he will disappear, they would be happy. Everything will be back to normal.
“They left you alone? Those idiots? But just now, everyone was here”

“We just met. The game just brought us together, just like old times. Only you’re not speaking to each other and I don’t know why” Taemin shrugged.

“Hey, I’m really sorry” Jonghyun looked at him softly. “I will talk to them”

“Okay” He mumbled and added “I’m glad you’re all back”

Minho loosened the tie around his neck for some air. Work was taking all the life left inside him and it felt good to him. He vowed himself to focus on work and nothing else. All romance and silly things have to be forgotten and with his busy schedule, he managed to do those. It was tiring sitting behind his desk all day, checking reports and organizing some projects and it was enough to brainwash him.

Still dressed in his working clothes, he felt his body dropped on the bed.  Little by little, he was drifting to dreamland until his phone started ringing beside him. He groaned and answered it.

“Hello?”

“Minho-yah” Minho quickly sat up when he heard the voice on the other line “It’s me Jonghyun”

“Oh Hyung, why did you call?” Anxiety was evident on his tone.

“Mind having a drink with me?”

Five minutes later, Minho was inside the bar looking for someone. It was dark and quiet. The only sound was from the classic music that was playing. He fixed his coat before approached the small figure drinking at the counter.

He quietly sat on the seat beside Jonghyun. The older immediately offered him a glass of brandy which he accepted. He liquid slid through his throat burning. The taste was uncomfortable since he don’t drink that much but pleasurable at the same time.

“When did you arrive?” He took another sip.

“Last wednesday” Jonghyun was filling his glass for another round. “Thought I’d surprise you”

“It was more like you scared us” He chuckled “You look good”

“You too” There was silence. They sat there drinking, not even looking at each other. The music drifted to ballad, making the atmosphere less tense. Jonghyun was on his fourth drink when finally broke the silence “Heard you guys broke up after I left”

“Hmmm” Minho was just staring at his drink. It was starting to make him feel dizzy. “Well, the four of us decided to live our own lives. After you left, it felt wrong”

“I actually thought you’d be happy”

“Not really” He took another sip “You left us feeling guilty. For ten years I tried to repent so I worked hard and let myself suffer each and every day. And you know what hyung, it felt good”

“Minho”

“I was wrong, hyung” Minho sighed and took another sip. His body is starting to feel numb. “You’re still my friend right?”

“Minho, I’m your best friend” Jonghyun smiled at him and drank another bottle.

The night was young and the city was still alive. The wind continues to blow and the leaves continue to fall. The place still looks the same but the people changed. Only people change. The people changes, the world changes, and love too.

Jonghyun woke up with a hang over the next day. He groans as he forces himself to take a shower; he was still wearing the same clothes. It took him thirty minutes to erase the smell and he smiles on the mirror as he finished tidying up. His smile grew wider when he remembers the night he spent with his friend.

“Things are going to be back to normal” He sang as he enters his car.

Today is Saturday and breakfast at Tiffany’s was their tradition. He phoned Minho a while ago I he was coming and they agreed to meet up like the old times. Taemin was more ecstatic when he heard the news, he said he will find a way to contact Jinki. And so, they will have a breakfast at Tiffany’s.

Jonghyun grinned aas he saw three people sitting at their old spot. A vision of them ten years ago immediately flashed through his mind. “Aish, this kids” He muttered to himself and went to sit with them.

“Hyung we already ordered” Taemin said before he could take his seat.

“It’s okay, I’ll just order for myself then”

“Tex-Mex egg rolls, right?” Taemin grinned, he was seating beside Minho who was in front of him “We already ordered for everyone”

“Look who’s happy right now?” Jonghyun teased him and he swears he saw Taemin blushed.

“Well, it’s just we’re having a reunion after ten years. Of course I’m happy!”

Jonghyun laughed at Taemin blushing. He almost forgotten Jinki who was sitting beside him, he was busy reading a newspaper. “Hyung, why read that now?”

“You know I always read newspapers every Friday” Jinki said, not taking his eyes away from the paper.

“Greet me at least, we haven’t talk for ages and you’re treating me like this” He pouted and the older couldn’t help but laughed at him. Jinki reached to ruffle his hair and earns complains from his dongsaeng.

“Kibum, you’re here” He heard Minho said and immediately turned to the shocked man standing in front of them.

“Hi Kibum” He waved at him and Kibum’s mouth grew bigger. Kibum excused himself and dragged Minho outside, not far enough to see them but far enough not to hear them. “What’s wrong with him?” He asked the others and they just shrugged.

“Explain this situation” Kibum demanded, his arms waving in the air. Minho laughed at his reaction and it only added fuel on the fire. “You planned this didn’t you?”

“Planned what Kibum? Relax, we’ll just have breakfast like the old times”

“Old times? That man stole Taemin from you Minho!” Minho’s face darkened from what he said. “Don’t tell me you gusy made up after what he’s done?”

“He didn’t do anything Kibum”

“Oh please Minho wake up! Why are you so stupid!” Kibum hit him but he didn’t move. “That man hurt you! He took everything away from you!”

“He didn’t Kibum, No one took anything. Taemin wasn’t mine on the first place! Stop it” Minho pleaded at him. He held Kibum’s hands to stop him from his uncontrollably violent reactions “Don’t tell me you’re not yet over him?”

Kibum frozed. Minho raised an eyebrow and he tried to calm himself. He slowly pulled his arms, fixed his clothes before speaking. “I have an important appointment. Have fun eating with them”

Minho watched Kibum walk away. He obviously said the truth and he felt bad about it. He shook his head and headed back to their seat.

Not all people have changed after all.
