A/N: I don't think I wrote it well, it's sort of a roller coaster. I'm even confuse with the series of events. This happened in one day btw. Please don't be harsh with the comments. Thanks btw to Nicholas Sparks, I got a lot of help from him not personally.LOL. Anyway, this is the fic I promised to my three beloved unnies: otoke1315 , fangirlism_era , juuten. Tears rolled across his cheeks while watching her scribble some words in a piece of paper. He was about to give her her medicine but every time he sees her, he can't help but cry. He put the medicine at the table beside the door and left quietly. It was painful for Donghae to see his Yoona suffer everyday, she doesn't deserve to live like that, she doesn't deserve everything that she have now, including him. She loves him so much but she doesn't deserve to be with the man who hurt her the most. He sat at the swing outside letting the wind blew him away, hoping that it might blew all of their problems. The sun just rised, another day was blessed to them.
"Donghae" He heard her whisper behind him but he didn't look back, it would be painful for her to see him cry.
"Yeah?" he manage to speak but it sounded like a cough.
She sat beside him and stared at the scenery mother nature presented them "Why are you here? you're supposed to be by my side"
He felt a dagger of pain stabbed his heart, it was a promise he gave her before breaking her heart for the first time. I will be by your side, forever. She held into that promise even though he broke it a lot of times. She would just say Because I know that deep inside Donghae-oppa is a good man. He didn't mean to do that. Both of them knew it was a lie, a lie that she hoped would be a lie.
"Yoona, do you still remember how we first met?"
"Of course, we were still in highschool" She rested her head on his shoulders.
"I was bad, I know how much you like me so I played with the fire" he tried to make his voice stable "I will forever regret that immature decision"
Yoona didn't say anything, she'll just listen to him, to his sweet voice.
"You were so innocent back then" Donghae's tears started to drip in Yoona's hair "You don't know anything, you let me manipulate you"
That's because I love you, Yoona thought.
"You always answer my homeworks, you even cheated for me" He continued "I can't believe I let you do that"
They knew each other when they were still in high school, he knew her because she was the smartest in the class. She was a nerd, a nobody whom he didn't think he'll fall in love with. She was so obvious in front of him, so he thought of using her. He courted her just like how he courted other pretty girls, Yoona felt special. It was the first time someone looked at her like that, to hear someone say he'll be by her side forever and most of all, to see Donghae treat her like that. They kept their relationship as a secret, Donghae insisted to date other girls so it wouldn't be suspicious. Yoona let him, it was painful to see him hold hands with other girls but she didn't complain. It's for our own good, Yoona would always think. Every night, Donghae would visit her apartment. She would cook for him and do all his homeworks while he eats and if they have time, they will make love. They stayed like that until they graduated. After highschool, he broke up with her.
"Why did you stop?" Yoona broke the silence "I want to hear your voice"
"I'm sorry for everything" He whispered but there was no answer. When he thought of everything they did when they were still studying, he realized that Yoona was beautiful back then. Despite her appearance, eyeglassess and retainer, her logicial way of communicating, She was beautiful. He was a fool for not noticing it before.
A tear fell from her right eye, she remembered it well. She was lost when Donghae told her he can't live with her, how much burden she was to him. You're not the type of girl I want to live with forever, those were the last words he said before leaving her. She locked herself in her room for a month. Her dad tried to talk to her thrice and gave up when he felt that Yoona was just a body with no soul.
Then one day, she found her favorite book, 'Red Mars' by Kim Stanley Robinson under her bed, it was covered in dust and completely forgotten. She stopped reading it when Donghae courted her. She decided to finish it since she got nothing to do. She got her weird idea of going to mars to leave everything behind in it.
'Ai Hiroko thinks a new way of living could evolve there' Yoona said to her dad while pointing to the book. He just let her, thinking that she would come back to her senses after a few days.
Once, she faced the mirror and stared at the girl in front of her. She was thin. Her eyes were sunken and her cheeks were swollen, her long hair made her look much thinner. 'Aigooo! that's why Donghae-oppa left you' she said to herself. She promised her dad she'll take care of herself again and he suddenly cried in front of her. She can't blame him, she was the only family he got.
"Yoona? are you sleeping?" Donghae asked her.
"mmm-mmm" She mumbled through his neck.
"Have you taken your medicine?"
"Not yet" She smiled at him playfully, he was taken aback. How could she smile like that to him after everything? how she still smile when she's dying? Donghae patted her on the head and heaved her to his back. "But I don't want to drink my medicines anymore" She said to him as he handed her the plastic.
"You have to" He handed her a glass of water and sat at the table as he watch her.
"I don't want to" She said stubbornly, he wouldn't get mad anyway.
"Yoona you need---" "I'll die anyway" She whispered ignoring Donghae's words.

If only he hadn't left when they were high school, when they were working, when they were married, they would still have a lot of time. If only he didn't let himself be tempt by the devil. "Oppa, I'm sorry" she said as she saw him lost. "It's just that..." Yoona struggles to find the exact words to tell him but she can't find any, her vocabulary emptied. He pulled her and embraced her into a tight hug.
"Oppa I'm scared" She murmured into his chest, he could feel her shirt getting wet "I'm scared to die, why does this have to happen!" He silently cried with her "I'm only 24! I don't want to die!" He let her cry in his arms, he felt weak. He couldn't do anything. If only he could turn back time for her.
He sighed as he sat on the corner of the bed watching his lover sleep. He caressed her hair, that's the only thing he could do right now. Watch her, take care of her, pray for her, be by her side. 'I always wanted to go to Mars, especially when you left me before' He remembered her saying when they met at work. She looked different, she doesn't wear eyeglasses and retainer anymore, her hair was short and red, she was full of life. But the way she talks was still the same. Logical and full of basis. For the first time, Donghae thought he's in love. They started dating, again. But this time, Donghae was serious until he met Sunye. He fell head over heels just like the others, and without Yoona's knowledge Donghae dated her. As time passess by, Yoona bored him. He thought she always talk about Mars.
He remembered when he was so full of it and scolded her 'Why don't you just go to Mars right now if you want it so bad?!'
'I'm working to pay the expenses of that project' She would simply answer, ignoring the angry tone in his voice. For that he broke up with her again and this time Yoona was shattered. Later on, she found out about Donghae and Sunye.
How could I do that to her? He's off to his own train of thought again.
"Yoona" He said to her but she didn't heard him since she was sleeping "I'm sorry for everything"
He stood up and went out.
Yoona woke up when she heard the door closed, she opened her eyes when she heard Donghae left their house "He's leaving" she sighed to herself "Maybe I shouldn't have said that before" She stood up with much effort since there were no energy left in her legs. She pulled out the paper she was writing before and continued writing again. She felt exhausted as she wrote the last letters, She took one last glance at it before folding and slipping it in her favorite book.
She woke up when she felt a hand on her shoulders, it was Donghae. "You came back" She said weakly.
"Of course" And he planted a kiss on her forehead "I got something for you" he scooped her into his arms and brought her in an empty room. He couldn't help but notice how light she was. It seems to him that he was holding a stick.
It was dark in the room, black clothing covered the windows not letting any ray of sunshine pass. The only thing in the room was sofa and a telescope. He positioned her comfortably on the sofa and went to turn the lights off. Glow in the dark stickers of the stars were on the ceiling. She stared at the stickers above her in awe, she stand up and felt a rough surface touched her feet. The room's floor was covered by a carpet that looks like beach floor. the walls were covered in black paint and drawings of the planets, Mars was drawn the biggest. Stars covered in gold glitters were hanging everywhere. She turned to him with watery eyes.
"Its suppose to look like a solar system" He smiled at her.
"It's beautiful" She answered weakly.
He felt his eyes beginning to wet so he turned back "I'll just get the foods" he said before leaving.
They spent their day in the room, sitting on the sofa and talking about the memories they had. Most of it might not be good and romantic but Yoona still cherished them. She'll cherish everything she'll went through as long as she's with Donghae.
"Yoona" She mumbled in his neck "Do you remember when we got married? you were in tears the whole ceremony"
"That's because I was so happy"
Donghae smirked "I was too. It was after you forgave me" Yoona didn't speak, she breathed lightly in his neck "After we got married we still fight over it since she's my office mate, but you always surrender" He sniffed, he mustn't cry now. At least today, he should make her happy. "Yoona, why are you like that? I'm sorry for being the worst part of your life"
"You're the best part" She said which sound like a groan.
"I love you, you know that right?" Yoona nodded weakly.
Yoona died the next day, in her sleep, with Donghae hugging her in the sofa. He was mute after that, seeing Yoona with her last breath was a gift he will forever cherish. No one important to him have died before, come to think of it - he never cherished anyone. He lived a careless life. He was to show her mars in the telescope the next evening but it was too late. Yoona already left him, for the first time. He stared out blankly outside their house, everything was still the same.
"I did my best sir, I did. I took care of her, I tried to bring her to mars. I decorated the room, I'm not even sure if she can still see everything clearly" He whispered "I did everything I could"
"I'm sure she did, she must be happy now" Yoona's father tapped her back lightly "Thank you for staying by her side until the end"
Donghae's tears were unstoppable, it flowed freely across his cheeks "She made me happy too, she was the only person who had patience with me"
"Here, there's something inside" He handed him Yoona's favorite book. 'Red Mars'. He opened it and a letter fell.

I don't know how to start other than to say thank you.
I'm happy you came into my life, we might have fought a lot but I want you to know that I had fun with all the times we've had. You have always meant so much to me and I want you to know that I'm not blaming you with everything. Sometimes, relationship and marriage doesn't work out. But remember always that I love you. Even if you leave me again, even if you find another woman in your life, I will still love you. Despite the things we've been through, I still think I'm blessed to meet you. Thank you for staying even if you only did it because I was sick. But I'm sorry for not being the best girlfriend/wife I should have been. I know you were only looking for the right love, and I have not given it you that's why our relationship have holes. I was boring you with my fantasies in mars that you didn't like. I apologize for that. I just want to see ourselves exploring with the beauty of science hoping you might like it someday and can be the bridge of our relationship. It must have been hard for you to have a geeky wife. Mars is my favorite place since it's a secluded place where I can express myself and I found it in you.

But since I'm depressed (lack of sleep, suffering from insomnia) it turned out like that! Someone died. I'm sorry for writing a fail tragedy, I just wanted to sleep. I was going to end it with "Yoona died - the end" but I can't. Somehow, the story makes me laugh. Because I can't imagine myself writing it and it doesn't sound sad (right?). I don't write cheesy scenes. I'm not used to it!xD
