Genre : High School, love, drama, fluff
The bright morning sunlight worked its way through the bedroom drapes and settled onto Sungyeol’s face. Sungyeol squinted slightly and groaned in frustration. He hated getting up early in the morning. Especially when it’s a school day. Given any other days, he would’ve just ignored the alarm clock and skipped school but today was not like any other day. It was his first day of school. Yes, it was.
Sungyeol and his family recently moved into the city. His dad managed to get a better offer on his job and now they’re living in a bigger and nicer house than they had before. Not to say that they had suddenly went hardcore rich or anything, just that their lives had definitely gone better. Which is why now they had to move into the city, forcing Sungyeol to leave all his friends and life back in the small town. His parents transferred him to a private school uptown, and it was to his understanding that the school was pretty much for the upper-class residents. And he hated the fact. It’s not that he was unsociable or anything, Sungyeol actually liked making new friends, but he just wasn’t in the mood to mingle with snotty, rich kids.
Sungyeol yawned and rubbed his eyes before kicking off the covers and stood up straight. He glanced at his alarm clock and sighed. Yeap, he needed to get ready now. As much as he hated, he still have to deal with the fact that he has a new life now. And there’s no running away from it.

After gobbling down his breakfast in a hurry, in which his mum started nagging again of the risk of choking everytime he does that, he simply kissed both his parents’ cheeks and waved goodbye before walking out the door.
He stopped for a moment in front of the doorstep and sniffed the air. He scrunched his face as he realized even the air was not the same as his old place back in the small town. He realized that everything looked bigger, wider and even the people were pretty scary. They didn’t even look down as they walked and none of them greeted each other just like the people back in Sungyeol’s town did.
Sungyeol strapped on his sling bag and started walking. He had always walked to school, even back in his town, and so he didn’t mind at all. Besides, he could really use the fresh air and probably get to know the roads around the city a little better.

Sungyeol HATED everything about his new school. He hated the way the floor shines as if it was made of diamonds, he hated the fact that everybody comes to school with luxurious cars, he hated the way the school was so big that it made everyone there looked like little ants, he hated the way the school bell rings so loud that he nearly had his eardrums blown by it. He hated everything. But most of all, he hated the way people were looking at him.
He only realized it as he was walking down the hallway, looking for the school office. The students were giving him looks as if he was the freakiest alien on the planet and he felt really uncomfortable. It was no surprise of course, since the students there had never been encountered with ‘new students’. The community there was really kept tight and not anybody can just waltz in through the school like nobody’s business. Sungyeol wondered how his dad could even get him into this kind of place.
He was examining the schedule paper in his hands when he suddenly bumped into something hard. He fell back and hit the floor. Hard.
‘OUCH. WHAT THE-
‘Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry. I didn’t see you there and I was in a hurry. God, are you okay?’
Sungyeol rubbed his elbows, which he had used to prevent him from falling further, and looked up. He was ready to scream his head off when he saw this guy, giving him the most sympathetic face ever and holding out his hand.
‘Can-can you get up? Do you need help?’ He asked again when Sungyeol didn’t respond.
‘Err…yeah.’ Sungyeol muttered, still dumbstruck by the guy’s kindness. He took the hand offered and pulled himself up. Dusting his pants, he muttered again,
‘Thanks.’
‘No problem. I feel really bad about this. I shouldn’t have bumped into you like that. Again, I’m so sorry.’
‘You don’t have to apologize over and over again. I get it.’ Sungyeol offered an honest smile when he saw the other boy looked really guilty.
He let out a sigh of relief. ‘Okay.’ He smiled back.
‘I’m Nam Woohyun. The student body President.’ He held out his hand for a handshake.
Sungyeol returned his handshake ‘Hi. I’m-
‘Lee Sungyeol, I know.’ Sungyeol raised his eyebrows, and before he could say anything further, Woohyun voiced out again
‘Everybody in the school knows who you are. It’s really a rare occasion for us to be welcoming somebody new to the school. You’re a lucky chap.’
Sungyeol rolled his eyes ‘Oh, how exciting.’ He said sarcastically.
Woohyun let out a laugh and Sungyeol thought it was the most beautiful thing he’d ever heard.
‘I’m actually assigned to show you around the school and get you to your scheduled classes for your first day.’ Woohyun stated. ‘Unless you don’t want me to?’
Sungyeol tried hard not to look excited and simply said, after a while.
‘Nah, I don’t mind.’ His heart was making somersaults like crazy cheerleaders.
‘Okay then. Let me lead the way.’ Woohyun winked at him and smiled, before starting to walk.
‘Oh, God.’ Sungyeol muttered to himself as he watched Woohyun, and tried hard to restrain himself from smiling like an idiot.
**********
‘And so THIS is your first class for today.’ Woohyun breathed out, after giving the complete tour of the school and stopped in front of a classroom. It stated 4B at the top of the door. Sungyeol could already hear noises made by student in the classroom.
‘Don’t forget everything I’ve told you. And here’s your locker key, your school ID and timetable.’ Woohyun said, yet again, as he passed each of the items mentioned.
‘Okay. Thanks for everything, Woohyun.’ Sungyeol smiled.
‘Haha. No, biggie. You can just holler at me anytime if you need any help. Or if you need a friend, for that matters.’ He flashed him a smile and Sungyeol could feel his knees going weak. God, he was falling for this guy. BADLY.
Sungyeol nodded, wasn’t really sure of what to say next. He was not the type to be tounge-tied, but this was a different case.
Sungyeol straightened his tie and took a deep breath before knocking and turning the doorknob. The class went silent as soon as he stepped in. He gulped when he realized all eyes were on him. He hated being the center of attention.
‘Mr. Lee Sungyeol?’ A slightly older man standing in front of the classroom asked as he pulled down his glasses down to the tip of his nose.
‘Err, yeap. That’s me. Haha.’ Sungyeol pointed at his name tag dorkily and laughed awkwardly by himself. The class stayed silent.
God. How embarrassing.
‘Oh, please come in. Nice to finally meet you in person.’ The man gestured him to come in front, next to him.
‘I’m Mr Tablo. I’ll be your History teacher for this semester.’ He smiled and Sungyeol thought he looked like a cartoon character.
‘Introduce yourself to the class.’ He instructed.
Sungyeol dreaded this moment so very much. Talking in front of a crowd was so not his thing. He gulped before opening his mouth and started talking.
‘Hi, I’m Lee Sungyeol and I’ve just moved here. I hope we can be friends and take care of each other. Thank you.’ Sungyeol bowed a little, keeping a straight face as he did.
He could hear a few snickers and probably some girls giggling.
‘He’s cute.’
‘I want him.’
‘Oh my god, what’s with his cheeks? I just wanna pinch ‘em!’
‘Dude, he’s taller than you.’
‘Shit.’
‘CLASS, KEEP IT QUIET PLEASE. It’s not a circus show, geez.’ He said before turning back to Sungyeol. ‘You may take a seat. I’m just about to start my class.’ He smiled then turned to the blackboard and grabbed a chalk.
Sungyeol scanned around the class and spotted an empty seat. The seat next to it, however, was taken by someone. Sungyeol, however, couldn’t see his face since it was buried in his arms. He was probably sleeping. Sungyeol snorted. What kind of a person sleeps like a boss when the teacher’s teaching?
Sungyeol walked to the seat, oblivious to the students who had been staring at him for the past few minutes. He thought he saw someone mouthed to him ‘don’t sit there’ but maybe that was just his imagination so he ignored it.
Dropping his bag beside the table, he slumped down to the chair. His actions somehow startled the person beside him. The boy pulled his face up and straightened his body, rubbing his eyes. Sungyeol thought it was the cutest thing he’d ever seen. His expression after that, however was nothing close to cute.
‘What the hell are you doing here?’ He shot Sungyeol a glare which made him just wanna run off and cry in a corner.
‘Err, hi. I’m Sungyeol. I’m a new student here. I saw that this seat was empty so-
‘It’s taken.’ He coldly stated.
‘By who?’ Sungyeol raised his eyebrows. There was really nobody else who didn’t have a seat in the classroom.
‘By my bag. Now get off.’ He slammed his bag on top of Sungyeol’s table and gestured at Sungyeol to get up.
Sungyeol blinked his eyes and snorted. He couldn’t believe someone could be this mean and ignorant.
Sungyeol was ready to snap back but then it hit him. It was his first day after all, and he ddin’t wanna start any kind of fight. He decided he was better than that.
‘Fine, asshole.’ He muttered, loud enough for the class to hear.
The boy with the jet-black hair and cold eyes, stared at him like he was an alien and said,
‘What did you call me again?’ He scrunched his forehead.
‘ASSHOLE.’ Sungyeol emphasized the word, earning a few gasps from the other students.
‘You little-
The boy was ready to get up when Mr Tablo’s voice was heard.
‘Ehem. Is there any problem here?’ He looked back and forth at the boy and Sungyeol.
‘No, sir. We’re fine.’ The boy flashed a smile and nodded. Sungyeol couldn’t believe what he was seeing. It was like he had bipolar, first he was this cute sleepy dork, then he turned like an ice cold prince then became this sweet smiley student. Sungyeol nearly pinched himself to confirm if this was reality.
Sungyeol grabbed his bag and went to the seat at the back, further away from the boy.
He looked up and caught the boy’s eyes again. The look of his eyes was saying that this was not over. Sungyeol shook his head and decided to just concentrate on the class. He didn’t need distractions, he had other things to worry about.
