To The Middle of Nowhere - Chapter IV

Jun 05, 2012 08:39

Myungsoo yawns, rubbing his eyes, as to wake up Suzy. But it proved useless. She just twitches, and continues to sleep like a baby. She has a smile on her face while sleeping, totally different whe she's awake. It reminds him of his mother: that sweet peaceful smile.

After a couple of tries, he finally gives up in trying to make her move away and decides to just stay like that. Their position somewhat pisses him off just because a kid opposite their row has been continuosly staring at their direction, throwing meaningful glances, as if he thinks they're a couple. But that would never come true, he hissed softly. And he glared at the boy, causing him to cry loudly. To this, she finally wakes up.

She rubs her eyes, and yawns silently. He stares at her, frowning cutely. She jumps on her chair lightly as she sees her hand wrapped around Myungsoo. She quickly moves away and whispers, sorry.

"I told you not to say that again," he turns around and smiles sheepishly.

Just then, she gasps loudly. "You!" she exclaims. "You are ..." she covers her wide open mouth, her eyes full of shock, too.

"You didn't know?" he raises his eyebrow. I thought you knew all along.

"You're Kim Myungsoo, right? You were my classmate before."

"I ... yes. I guess that's the case," he replies, scratching his head.

"I'm ... I mean, thank you for that time," she says softly, "when you offered that seat."

"Sure," he grins, "uhh ... can't you remember anything else?"

"Huh?" she furrows her eyebrows, "what do you mean?"

"Ah, nothing. I guess I just said that without thinking." So she doesn't remember her panic attack anymore. And me.

"Oh," she smiles, "I see."

Something's different with her right now, he thinks to himself. She looks happier. Her skin is bright not like before. She gained some weight, I see, but still a little thin. And she seems to feel comfortable around me now. I didn't know she could talk to me like this. But what could have happened to her after that day?

She fakes a cough, to catch his attention. She begins to feel uneasy with him staring at her like that. "Uhmm," she says softly, "may I ask you something?"

"Sure!" he exclaims, "what is it?"

"Well, I ... I wanna know why you helped me out that time," she bows her head down, too shy to face him. "I mean, I was the weird new girl. But still, you helped me without having second thoughts."

Myungsoo clears his throat, his mouth feeling so dry all of a sudden. I actually had second thoughts, you know," he lies, "but I chose to help you in the end instead. Besides, I just hate bullies, that's why ..."

"I see, thank you," she whispers, looking up at him slowly, "by the way, where are you headed to? Aren't you supposed to be in school?"

"Well ..." Should I tell her or not? Geez. No, not now.

"Well what?" she questions.

"I ran away," he lies again, "I just ... hate going to school. So I'm going to travel anywhere."

She furrows her eyebrows, and plays with her fingers. She knows he's lying, it's obvious in his clear eyes. But she lets it pass anyway. I also lie, won't hurt to hear one from him.

She then nods and smiles at him. "I'm going to Mokpo to just relax myself ... where are you headed?"

"Really?" his eyes grow big, "I'm going there too."

"A-ah, I see," she stammers, "well then ..."

"Wanna come travel around with me? Well, that's just if you want to." He crosses his arms, and sits like a boss.

"I ..." she whispers, bowing her head down.

"I won't ask twice so tell me now," he smirks, "will you come with me or not?"

"I guess ..." she bites her lip, not sure of what to say, "okay."

Myungsoo smiles at his success, and sits more comfortably. Suzy smiles too at his childish behavior. I didn't know the "ice prince" could act this way too, she giggles to herself.

They stay quite for some time: Myungsoo looking out the window and dozing off once in a while, and Suzy reading an antique book.

A couple of hours later, they arrive at their stop at last.

He jumps down to the platform, dropping his luggage on the floor. He spreads his arms wide, looks up, and breathes in the fresh air. She giggles at the sight of him acting so childish, thinking, what have I gotten myself into? He then says, grinning, "Mokpo."

"Let's go!" he gestures towards her, "I know where we should go first."

"Oh, okay," she grins, "after you."

He skips toward the exit happily, Suzy trailing closely behind him.

"Just where would this wind take us both?" she whispers to herself.
