One of my goals I set for myself about 4 years ago is to qualify for, compete in, and finish the Ironman Triathlon in Hawaii.
for those of yu who do not know, it entails:
swimming, biking, and running
It is based in Kailua Kona, Hawaii and involves a 2.4 mile swim,
followed by a 112 mile bike ride,
and a 26.2 mile marathon along the coast of the Big Island.
in order to be one of the 1,500 competitors allowed in the championships in Hawaii (the big race) you must either qualify in a qualifying race (win your age group) or be one of the 200 selected out of the pool of around 3000 each year, which then you need to finish at least a half ironman race, and you're in.
also you're only given 17 hours to finish the Big race, otherwise they roam around the desert of hawaii to try and find you and take you to the finish.
first place is $100,000
sounds like fun to me!
seriously though
I really wanna do this
I dunno why I write about it now
but I am
they say athletes train around 18-24 hours a week training
around 7 miles of swimming 225 miles of biking an 50 miles of running per week. Not including things like weight training, yoga, stretching etc.
If I don't do swimming in college
this is what I will be training for
hopefully!
