*bzzt bzzzt* ZAP!!!

I've known for some time that the office building I work at here in New Jersey 3-4 times a week can get pretty dry. In fact, during these cold winter months, each day I get multiple reminders of how dry it is because I keep getting zapped with little static electricity shocks each time I put my hands near the trackpad of my laptop.

Now I knew this was bad for the computer, but I think I now have a greater appreciation for this fact after my computer shut off after a particularly large zap. My PDA was plugged into the USB port, and as I reached for it to initiate a HotSync, the static shock jumped to the PDA, down the USB cable, and to the computer, which promptly turned itself off.
