Sports fanaticism is so irrational

On the one hand, I'm happy that a team that I expected was going to be lucky to finish with a record above .500 managed to make the playoffs for the first time since 1987. (For those of you who are counting, that's almost TWO DECADES.)

On the other hand I'm disappointed that a team that went into the final three games of the season with a chance to not only win the division but get home field advantage throughout the playoffs, simply by beating the Kansas City Royals a few times, instead got swept by those same Royals and now faces the Yankees as their initial playoff opponent.

On the one hand, I'm happy that they're facing the Yankees because, since I'm now local to the area, maybe I can get tickets and see a game live.

On the other hand, since it's The Yankees, maybe I can't.

On the one hand, I laugh at the New York newspapers because, if you read their sports pages, it sounds like they live and die by the performance of their teams.

On the other hand I look at myself, and I see myself doing the EXACT SAME THING.

In the end, though, I have to say that even if they get bounced out in the first round of the playoffs (like the Red Wings), I'm happy with what the Tigers were able to accomplish this year. And I look forward to them pulling a Chicago [White Sox] or Cleveland [Indians] next year and missing the playoffs entirely. Again.

Go Tigers.

It looks like this is their first time finishing the season above .500 since '93. And it's been only 3 years since they finished 43-119.
