His eyes glued to the framed photo on the coffee table. The enthusiastic lad holding a baseball bat with a big grin in the picture had left the house. It wasn't the same that day. Either he woke up at the wrong side of bed, or he had too many drink last night, he wasn't sure of why he is in his worse mood. One thing for certain is, the house seems so quiet...without the loud sound of pan banging, or the high spirited Aiba. He rubbed his messy bed hair and head to the fridge for some milk.
"Maybe it's for the best....till I decide what to do with him..." Sho said as he gulped the leftover milk in the carton. For a few days, there was not a single news of Aiba. Not even a call asking about his well being. Sho's life was more than miserable....His days were spent glaring at the photo of Aiba and him...His nights are nights of alcohols. The house were different than when Aiba left the house.
Two weeks passed. Still no news...
Sho grabbed his parka decided to head to the nearest combini when his doorbell suddenly rung. The first person came to his mind was Aiba, so he rushed over to the door.
"Yo....er...Sho-chan...desu...ka?" It was not Aiba but Aiba's childhood friend, Nino. Sho met with him several times when he went out drinking with Aiba but, they never talked just the both of them.
"Ah, Ninomiya-san..." he said nonchalantly, "Nandesuka?"
"Is Aiba here? He left his phone and parka when he left yesterday..."
"Left? For certain he's not here..."
"What do you mean he's not here? He took his belonging and said a proper goodbye to me yesterday...I thought for sure he's going to return..."
"Well, he's not."
"He doesn't have that much acquaintance...where could he be...His hometown?" Nino quickly dialled Aiba's hometown, "He's not there. But he did call them last two days."
"Did Aiba said anything to you?" Sho started to worry.
"I don't thi...AAHHH...He said something about settle something something and that something something has something to do with you."
"Too many something."
"Mou, I was drunk that time...I'm worried..."
"It's ok. I'll tell you when he return." With that, Nino left the house. Sho sense trouble. About me?
"Masaka...."He dashed out of the house.
In the dark room, Aiba, hand hung with a rope from the ceiling panted hard. His head and clothes was drenched with dripping sweats with a mix of blood. His hand and lips trembled from the many consecutive blows he received. He could barely opened his eyes, nor he could move his body anymore. The room reeked of rotten smell and stained with blood. He felt sick just being in the room.
He groaned as the old man pulled his hair, "You will regret this decision of yours trying to act all hero. Ever since young, you like playing hero ain't ya? What did you get from that?"
Aiba didn't answer.
"Well, maybe it was a clever choice after all...makes it easy to end this revenge...Anyhow, you'll be dead...on my hand or Sho's. If I depend on that kid, he'll never make up his mind."
"Why did you make him do...all your dirty work?"
The man laughed, "I didn't force him. He's the one agreeing on the revenge. I just helped him through the process. Those guys and you deserved it!" Another punch landed on Aiba's stomach, "You especially...if it wasn't for you...those rats would rot in prison...they killed a whole family...an innocent family! A baby was killed you bastard!!!!!!!!" The guy screamed. Tears started to came out from his eyes.
"You made....Sho-chan a murderer..."
"Me? Me?" The old man gave another laugh, "If you didn't let them go...would that boy become a murderer? Would he kill mercilessly?"
"He wouldn't even live..." Aiba said under his breath...He had barely able to speak. He was finally at his limit when he received another blow at his back using a rod.
"I think you've spoken enough. It's time for you to pay for your sin..." With that the old man ordered his men to untie Aiba and hold him. The old man took out his gun, "Should I use this?"
Aiba closed his eyes. His tears felt on his cheek...but he felt no regret of his action.
"With this condition, it'd be a waste of my bullet. Hand me the rod!" One of his man gave the rod to him. Aiba's heart felt heavy. It's the end of his life...What does death felt like? He is scared. Just then, he felt a strong force at the back of his head. His eyes bulged. The men let him go as he felt slowly on the floor wetted with his blood. Just as he was about to close his eyes, he heard the door being forcedly open and the familiar voice screaming his name. He carved a smile...as his eyes finally give way to the darkness for eternity.
Sho grabbed hold of Aiba. The lifeless body...as he hugged....tears couldn't stop flowing, "Why'd you killed him!!!!!!!!!!" He shouted.
"It's the mission. If it were you, no one knows when you'll act." The old man smirked, "I told you right...Don't let me be the one having to do this mission of yours."
"You're despicable..." He kept on shaking the lifeless body...but that miracle boy won't budge.
"Look at it this way. I'm doing him a favor. He came to me...asking me to explain everything and said that he'll give his life if I'm the one taking his life. He's all 'Don't involve Sho-chan in this revenge. Stop making him kill....'" He imitated Aiba which made Sho furious. He grabbed hold of the old man's collar only being pulled away by the men, "Anyway, as promised, you're free to go now. We'll have no tie with each other. Take that body as you go..."
As the men left, Sho screamed in agony. He kept shaking Aiba to wake up....but to no avail...
"I'm sorry...Aiba-chan...I didn't protect you." He kept on repeating it until he felt asleep.
"Ne, Sho-chan..." Aiba's voice woke him up. He was so surprised he pushed Aiba away.
"Aiba...Aiba-chan!!! You're alive..." He quickly hugged Aiba, "It was a dream da ne?"
"Sho-chan...are you ok?"
"Just having you here,I'm perfectly ok. Gomen ne, about that fight we had..."
Aiba shook his head, "Daijoubu dayou...Ano, Sho-chan...I never regret what I did."
Sho pulled Aiba away, "WHat do you mean?"
"I like Sho-chan best when you are at home...when you read the newspaper, when you are caught up with work, when you do something stupid....Sho seems more human like that..."
"What are you saying...."
"So...keep on living like that! Don't you dare to die."
"Aiba-chan...let's stop talking and go home..."
"I gave my life for you...Go live your life to the fullest! You are the most important person to me...." Just then Aiba slowly drifted away from him.
Eh...??? Sho looked around calling for the guy non-stop until he was jolted from his sleep. Tears filled his eyes. Aiba's head soaked with blood is at his chest. He hugged Aiba for the last time before he brought the lifeless body out of the room.
