hmm.. this is just from me, based on my experience and point of view.
When I was in Year 1&2, I had a very good platonic friend. Yup, Guy. And I do emphasize Platonic. Although of course we never really did get down to stating anything
But what we did do together.. was study together everyday (finding some classroom), usually till late at night (that's why its called mugging right) and he'll drive me home. Sometimes he'll pick me on the way to NUS too (because he passes by my place aniwaez). Stuff like that. We were close. But neither of us did feel it was something "on the next level"? I dont know. For me, I took it as studying with a close friend. Since we took the same modules, and we lived close by to each other.
Oh yeah. He does have a gf back then. Hahaha.. which of course.. I never knew until she suddenly showed up one day in the 2nd year we've known each other.
I, for one strongly believe in platonic friendships and perhaps that's why I have this mindset. So imo.. I don't really think she was leading you on, based on what you've written.
