LGBT Pride Month

Jun 02, 2009 16:09

rosykate posted this about the new LGBT Pride Month. I think it's a nice gesture, but it really is just that - a gesture. Call me a pessimist, but it kind of feels like the administration is throwing the LGBT community a bone. Like, "no, you can't serve in the military, and don't even think about equal rights, but here, have a holiday." It feels like trying to cover up the fact that there hasn't been all that much progress in the struggle for equal rights. DADT is still around. DOMA is still around. And even the president himself has said he doesn't support gay marriage.

I really hope I'm wrong. I hope he follows this up with real substantive change in national policy. He has a lot of influence right now. He needs to use it before it's too late.
