New Mexico Repeals the Death Penalty

And all I have to say is thank god more states are finally coming to their senses. Maybe the U.S. can catch up to the rest of the industrialized world soon. By contemporary international standards, capital punishment is indisputably "unusual punishment", say what you will about cruelty. I see this state action as a step towards a national rejection of the death penalty. After all, it happened with women's suffrage. And I have a feeling it's going to take a national law to stop the crazies in Texas from murdering criminals. No offense to normal people in Texas, of course.

Also, did you know that the government once had a plan to get mailmen and utilities workers to spy on citizens? I kid you not. It was called TIPS, and it was defeated in Congress. And obviously it would be very useful Because if I were a terrorist, I would totally leave my bomb making materials out where the electrician could see it. Bravo, government. Also, wouldn't it be tantamount to a warrantless secret search if a utilities worker who entered your house was reporting on you to the government? It's called a reasonable expectation of privacy. I understand the Constitution doesn't mean much these days, but come on. Postal workers as secret spies?
