“Yoboseyo?”
“You unprincipled, moronic bastard!”
Yunho sighed, he was so used to being insulted nowadays he couldn’t even find the energy to be offended anymore. In truth, he had forgotten that Changmin was now in charge of the headquarters, he knew he had a bad feeling about emailing his proposals back to the company. Changmin, like Jaejoong, was not informed of their change of course.
“New York isn’t exactly safe okay,” Yunho rubbed his temples, “At least I can set up an entire security system on this island without being suspected.”
“A battalion of security would not keep him safe from you,” Changmin growled, “Are you trying to make life hard for yourself or are you willing to put Jaejoong in danger now?”
“I can control myself, Changmin,” Yunho growled, “Anyway, you’re too late, we’re already here.”
“I wish I could punch you right now.”
“Don’t worry, Jaejoong’s taken care of that,” Yunho gingerly fingered his completely swollen nose, “If you’re worried that I’m not tortured enough, you can be rest assured. In fact, I might need some security to keep me safe from Jaejoong.”
“What did you do?”
“Uh...the usual...called him a feel names and stuff,” Yunho was not going to tell Changmin about his sleeping arrangements, “Anyway, you have to help me, Jaejoong’s been in a completely foul mood since breakfast.”
Changmin sighed on the other end, it was his turn to rub his temples. “Again. What did you do?”
“Nothing! I swear!” Yunho peaked around his desk into the president suite kitchen where Jaejoong was currently making his coffee, “He can’t still be mad at me for...making fun of him, I’ve already suffered for that and I can’t apologise any further! He was still fine at breakfast, but he’s been acting like a murderer ever since.”
“And why do you think that?”
“Well,” Yunho’s brow furrowed, “I think he just put a dead fly into my coffee.”
“Don’t worry, you might get an upset stomach at the most,” Changmin drawled, “Flies are a good source of protein.”
“Liar.”
“Look who’s talking. Anyway, what exactly happened at breakfast? Jaejoong can be feisty, but it’s not like him to hold grudges, no matter what kind of condition he’s in.”
“Well, I met Heechul and....”
Yunho could hear a distinct crash of folders being dropped and secretaries exclaiming behind Changmin’s loud gasp through the speakers.
“Do not tell me you called out to him.”
“Changmin, he’s a good friend of mine.”
“Jaejoong hates his guts!”
“Jaejoong has never met Heechul. I’ve only talked about him once or twice and, if you haven’t noticed, Jaejoong can’t remember the past.”
“Well, Jaejoong has always hated him, he said you talked about Heechul as though you wish you two were never over. No doubt that jealousy is imprinted in his instincts right now.”
“Changmin, I am a healthy, human being. I am allowed to have had a love life before Jaejoong. If I still wanted to be with Heechul, believe me, I’ll be with Heechul. And if I get jealous over every past lover Jaejoong has had, I’m going to be one son of a bitch.”
“You already are,” Changmin scoffed, “I don’t know what else to say to you, please, for the sake of my nerves, tread lightly from now on. Oh, and I’m also calling to update you on the investigations. It’s going well, we’ve uncovered some promising trials and I’m pulling Junsu into this to make things go faster, but don’t worry he’ll be safe as long as Yoochun is around. There’s nothing to worry about as of yet and since you’ve already sent yourself on a holiday, I suggest you stay light hearted. Don’t cause any more trouble please.”
“Yes mom.” Yunho hung up as Jaejoong approached him with the coffee, which Yunho eyed wearily before ignoring.
Jaejoong was unbelievably quiet as they continued working and soon Yunho got nervous.
“Are you mad about something?”
“No sir, why do you ask?”
“You just put a dead fly in my coffee.”
Jaejoong blinked at him, “It was a lump of black sugar.”
“Mr Kim, that was not...”
“It was a lump of black sugar, sir.”
And that was the end of that attempt at getting Jaejoong to speak. Yunho really hoped he was hallucinating when he caught of a flash something looking dangerously like the bread knife up Jaejoong’s sleeve.
More awkward silence later, Yunho dared to try again.
“If you find Heechul’s straightforwardness a little upsetting, I will apologise on his behalf,” Yunho said tentatively, “He’s always been a little bold in expressing his emotions.”
“You don’t say,” Jaejoong muttered, “But I am not upset, sir.”
Yunho bit his lip, he had one last chance to get Jaejoong to talk, but he really didn’t want to ask such a question. Whatever the case, he can stand Jaejoong being nasty to him, but he can’t quite stand Jaejoong ignoring him, so he took the chance.
“Are you by any chance...homophobic?”
Jaejoong’s reaction was quite unpredicted. The calm on the beauty’s face suddenly disappeared to be replaced by a fierce blush and Jaejoong began shaking his head and waving his hands violently in denial.
“No! Nothing of that kind sir, I...I’m not okay! I...I...please excuse me while I get that!” Jaejoong jumped up and half ran to answer the sudden knock on the door.
Yunho was completely flabbergasted now. He has never seen Jaejoong so flustered, and what was that about? Was Jaejoong denying being homophobic just an attempt to not offend him or was he really okay with gays? Damn he wanted the old Jaejoong back even though this new one was kind of cute….
Jaejoong, on the other hand, was suffering a mild mind-explosion of his own. He know he has been acting overly vile to Yunho since breakfast, but he himself didn’t know why. Heechul’s appearance had been...unexpected and it’s not like Jaejoong knew the man, but he couldn’t help disliking him immediately. Maybe it was the fact that Yunho only commented about Heechul’s beauty even though they all knew Jaejoong was prettier. Maybe it was just the fact that he doesn’t like loud people...or did this Kim Heechul have something to do with his forgotten past?
“Hi Yun-Yun!! Oh wait, you’re the secretary. Where’s Yunho?”
Before Jaejoong could get a word past his lips, Heechul had pushed past him to throw himself across the room and promptly found himself a spot on Yunho’s lap.
Jaejoong had to look away when Heechul began his kissing attack again, but he couldn’t help but smirk when Yunho pushed the pretty man off him and told him to behave.
“You’re no fun Yun-Yun,” Heechul pouted, “And here I was going to ask you to come to the hot pools with me.”
“I’m here on a business trip, Heechul,” Yunho frowned at him, “And don’t you think it’s a little warm for hot pools this time of the year?”
“For my skin I will do anything,” Heechul sighed, looking around the room uninterestedly until his gaze once again rested on Jaejoong as the latter brought him tea, “Hey mister secretary, why don’t you come to the hot pools with me?”
“I beg your pardon?” Jaejoong was caught off guard as Heechul leapt up and grabbed his arm.
“Yun-Yun’s kinda boring anyway and you are so pretty, come play with me,” Heechul was almost whining and Jaejoong looked to Yunho for help.
“Go on,” Yunho sighed, “He’s not going to leave until he gets what he wants. I have to go to that stupid lunch with the manager anyway, you can have a short break.”
Once again, Jaejoong was caught off guard. That sounded a little too nice, coming from Yunho’s mouth.
“But sir…”
“Come on mister secretary.” And with that Jaejoong was helplessly dragged off by one Kim Heechul who happened to be a lot stronger than he looked.
“Heechul-sii, I very much appreciate your kindness, but I am technically at work here,” Jaejoong attempted to free himself from the other’s grip with no avail.
“Work is too overrated, mister secretary,” Heechul laughed, “Anyway, I know it’s very rude of Yunho not to have introduced us before, but I take it you know my name. What’s yours?”
“I…I’m Kim Jaejoong.”
At that, Heechul suddenly stopped and whirled to look at Jaejoong with a raised eyebrow. “You don’t happen to be Yunho’s lover right?”
“What? No! NO!” Jaejoong couldn’t help his overreacting, the thought was simply ludicrous, “I’m just his secretary and it’s under unfathomable circumstances that we’re sharing a room and….”
“Alright, alright,” Heechul started walking again, his grip still on Jaejoong’s wrist, “Yunho had his flings anyway. I wouldn’t be surprised if you were his lover.”
The topic was suddenly changed and Jaejoong found himself speechlessly listening to Heechul’s nonstop blabber about skincare and men until he seriously began to wonder whether the other man needed to pause for breath.
“Look at me, talking on a tangent again,” Heechul laughed as they were stripping for the hot pools, “and I haven’t even asked you if you are gay.”
Jaejoong spluttered and almost ripped his shirt. “I’m sorry, what was that again?”
“Are you gay?”
“I….” Jaejoong panicked, he wanted to deny it, but…was he not gay?
“Oh, you most be one of those in-between, I’m-not-sure-if-I’m-homo-because-I’m-too-embarrassed-to-come-out type. Don’t worry, I have no problem with that…my goodness you’re hot.”
Heechul obviously had no problem with openly checking someone out because he was making a big show of scrutinizing Jaejoong’s half-naked body. Blushing, Jaejoong quickly grabbed a towel and covered himself as best as he could before leading the way to the pools. Like the rest of this flashy resort, the place was deserted, but very luxurious.
“Um…I don’t mean to pry but…” Jaejoong said they moment they settled down in the steamy water, “can I ask you a question?”
Jaejoong didn’t exactly know what he wanted to ask, but he guessed it would be better to start the conversation instead of letting Heechul start it.
“Of course darling, ask away,” Heechul was busying himself with a pink bath cap that just did not belong.
“Um…about the president…” Jaejoong was blabbering, “um…I’ve seen him with women before…but is it true that he’s…”
“Yunho doesn’t go out with woman unless it’s for business reasons,” Heechul cut in, “He’s 100% into men, all his flings were men and I’ve had some history with him too. He and I go way back, want to hear about it?”
Not particularly.
“Sure,” Jaejoong smiled.
“Well, both our families are filthy rich, so we practically knew each other since birth,” Heechul began without a moment’s hesitation, “We did everything together - went to school together, played together, got in trouble together, found out our sexual orientation together etc.”
Jaejoong had a feeling he was going to be very tired by the end of this story.
“Basically, we played around a lot when we were young because we can afford it,” Heechul grinned like it was the most natural thing to say in the world, “Yun-Yun was really popular, and girls and guys alike just threw themselves at him. For a time, I got jealous so I made him go out with me. We ended up having a lot of fun and when we ended things, I thought I was going to be Yunho’s longest running partner ever.”
There was a pause in which Jaejoong caught a flash of unoptimistic emotion cross Heechul’s face, but it disappeared as quickly as it came and Heechul was off again.
“Then Yunho left for overseas schooling and I pretty much never saw him again until he took over the headquarters of his family enterprise. When I finally met him again through a family gathering, he had completely changed. Aside from the fact that he was so fucking damn hot now, he had definitely matured a lot and he had that look in his eyes.”
“Look?” Jaejoong probed when Heechul stopped to frown.
“Yeah…that look that tells the world that you’re in love,” Heechul shivered, “It grossed me out, but he seemed mighty proud of it. That’s when I heard from the others that Yunho had a thing going on with a little bitch of a scientist whom he’d employed a few months back.”
Jaejoong didn’t know why, but he was the one shivering this time as Heechul once again paused to frown.
“Personally, I’ve never met the man and I don’t even want to know his name, but I can not forgive him for ruining my beautiful Yun-Yun and turning him into a disgusting, respectful romantic. After that, I heard something big happened in Yun-Yun’s company and a lot of us lost contact with him.”
Yet another story about Yunho’s mysterious past lover. Jaejoong was getting curious now; he can never quite imagine his president smitten over someone. Whoever the lover was, he must’ve been awfully important to the Jung Yunho. Then his mind strayed a little…what was that ‘something’ that happened?
“Jaejoong-sii,” Heechul’s voice brought Jaejoong back to the present, “Do you know why I asked you to accompany me here today?”
“N-no sir?”
“Let me tell you something,” Heechul was suddenly very close, “Rich people and smart people always have ulterior motives for doing something. I called you out here today because I have a feeling we’re not going to like each other very much from now on.”
Jaejoong swallowed. Does this person have multiple personality disorder? What is with the killer atmosphere right now? Did he really have to wear that ridiculous pink bath cap?
“I want Yunho back because I have a feeling he’s the only person who can ever satisfy me in bed,” Heechul whispered, “But I’m still seeing that stupid look of love in his eyes. I don’t know why because apparently the scientist went missing, but I cannot take any chances. You are my biggest suspect right now, so frankly, you’re in my way. Now I don’t know if it is true, so I will be reasonable, but I suggest you not to get too close with your president from now on. Have a good day.”
With that, Heechul stepped out of the pool and walked off, leaving Jaejoong with his mouth hanging and his brain spinning in all directions. Part of him wanted to run after Heechul and tell him he was misunderstanding things, but a bigger part of him wanted to run after Heechul and start a bitch fight. What is with that attitude? More importantly…why did Jaejoong’s whole world seem to revolve around Jung Yunho nowadays?
Knowing that dealing with Heechul was impossible for him, Jaejoong quickly got out of the pool and changed in order to rush back to their room and take his frustrations out on Yunho.
Jaejoong had just managed to round the first corner towards the elevators when a dead weight fell on him.
“Hey! What the f-” Jaejoong struggled to maintain his balance when he discovered that he had a semi-conscious man in his arms. Whoever this man was he had a nice body, a cute face and smelt nice….Jaejoong was not going to think about that any further.
“Excuse me! Please, get up!” Jaejoong tried to order the stranger’s flailing limbs so he could push the man off him, “Are you okay?”
Unable to get a response, Jaejoong wrapped his arms around the man’s torso and pushed him up against the wall. Just as he was trying to back off the man, a loud exclamation sounded in the corridor. Jaejoong looked up to see the last person he wanted to see right now.
Jung Yunho stood before them, ready for slaughter.
