A/N Right, I was going to update 'soon' as I promised and this isn't that late, but I actually had to rewrite this chapter a couple of times because I felt like my previous drafts didn't flow ==". But here it is now and thank you all who read, commented and voted in the polls in the previous chapter. You are all much appreciated :).

Chapter Eight- The Reluctant Secretary

“Excuse me?”

Jaejoong couldn’t care less if he looked like a retard to the receptionist right now. He really couldn’t care less if anything happens from this point onwards. The world can go blow up for all he cares. He’s just had about enough drama for one day...but this new piece of information he’d just been told must be dealt with immediately.

“What do you mean there is only one room available?”

The receptionist shuffled uncomfortably under Jaejoong’s intense glare. “I am very sorry for the inconvenience sir, but you see we’re all booked out for this month....”

The poor girl never got the chance to finish her sentence as the beautiful man before her suddenly launched forward aggressively, causing her to fall back onto her chair. Under any normal circumstances, Jaejoong’s face at such a close distance would’ve charmed any living female into hyperventilation, but in this particular instant, he wasn’t exactly charming.

“You see that son of a bitch over there,” Jaejoong hissed at the shivering receptionist, jabbing one finger in the direction of a man lounging on one of the shiny leather seats in the reception.

“His name is Jung fucking Yunho and I am his VERY reluctant secretary. For the past three weeks I have been working my arse off preparing for a ‘business trip’. Just half an hour ago, I was still under the impression that we were on our way to New York City, however, upon waking up from my nap on the plane, I was told that my stupid boss had ordered the plane to be turned around and landed on this ridiculously artificial island in the middle of goodness knows where.

I had to take the battery out of my phone because I am now being bombarded with calls from all over the world questioning why my boss isn’t where he is supposed to be, and everything is apparently my fault.

Now then, I may be a flexible and patient person, but I’m really THIS far away from snapping that bastard’s neck off. So for the sake of my sanity I suggest you check your system again, contact all your superiors if you have to, and get me a separate room from the moron over there, or god help me I will burn this place down, jump off a cliff and come back as a ghost to haunt this island forever.”

Jaejoong didn’t realise he had climbed half way over the reception desk until a strong hand gripped his shirt collar and pulled him back.

“Would you stop damaging my reputation by making a scene already?” Jung Yunho frowned down at the smaller man while trying to hide his amusement. Truth to tell, he was kind of glad Jaejoong had snapped earlier at the landing pad - a crazy Jaejoong was more like the man he loved than a Jaejoong who tries to be polite.

“What are you doing?” Jaejoong fought Yunho’s hold while trying to halt the poor receptionist, who had scampered off the moment Jaejoong was distracted, “I’m trying to get us an extra room and now she’s gone to check without knowing my requirements for the bathroom!”

“No, you are going to behave like an employee of my company and accompany me to the café upstairs,” Yunho pushed Jaejoong towards the elevator, “Hurry up before someone sees you like this.”

“This place doesn’t look very populated for a ‘fully booked’ hotel,” Jaejoong muttered, stepping into the elevator as the doors slid close behind them.

“Do you have any idea where you are?” Yunho raised an eyebrow at him, “This is a private resort, only a small handful of people in the world knows of its existence and an even smaller handful of people can actually afford to come here. This is a secret retreat from the rest of the world. For confidential purposes, they didn’t even name this place. So consider this an honour.”

Honour my arse you arrogant, rich bastard. “Sir, I think I deserve an explanation as to why we’re no longer on our business trip.”

“I didn’t feel like it anymore.”

Jaejoong began to plot of the ways he could accidentally slip some kind of toxic substance into this man’s drink later that evening. “Sir, this is work! No matter how well off you are you still have to draw the line between work and leisure.”

“Says who? We can still do work here and you can handle the people in New York later. Shouldn’t you be glad that I turned this business trip into a holiday? Now stop looking like you want to murder me and hurry along.”

Arguing any further would prove fruitless, so Jaejoong grudgingly followed his boss into the empty café and sat down near the window. From his seat, Jaejoong could see a grand view of the surrounding man-made forest. Each plant was placed exactly where it was to create a beautiful work of art that probably costs a little too much. Sure the rich people may be pompous narcissists, but they sure knew how to enjoy themselves.

Busy admiring the scale and detail outside the window, Jaejoong didn’t notice Yunho ordering drinks until his taste buds were surprised upon taking a zip from the cup placed in front of him.

“How did you...” Jaejoong looked up from his chai latte in surprise.

“Hmmm? Oh...you told me once - chai latte, more sugar, less cinnamon,” Yunho shrugged, “I suppose you can count this as an apology for messing up your schedule, though it’s really part of your job requirement.”

“I...” Jaejoong looked down at the cup and bit his lip, “I don’t remember telling you....”

In all seriousness, Yunho had hoped that Jaejoong wouldn’t notice that part of his statement. It was true that the Jaejoong now has never told Yunho his favourite drink, but Yunho wasn’t paying enough attention and ordered it out of habit. He’d assume that Jaejoong would be too occupied thinking of a smart retort to notice, but the mood took a quick turn and plummeted so much that it worried Yunho.

“Are you alright?” he asked tentatively.

“Yeah,” Jaejoong muttered and looked back out the window.

The word ‘remember’ was constantly striking fear within Jaejoong’s system. Although he tries not to think about it, he is fully aware of the fact that he still cannot recall the majority of his life. Daunting hardly covers the seriousness of his situation and it takes an effort to act normal.

“Do you suppose I look like someone with a family, sir?” Life would be so much easier with ctrl-z buttons. The last thing Jaejoong wanted was to show his weakest side to his pompous president.

Yunho was quiet for a long moment, watching the model-perfect man sitting across from him with a careful eye. There are numerous times when all Yunho wants to do is to remind Jaejoong of the whole truth. He wants his Jaejoong back and he definitely wants Jaejoong to come out of the uncertainty he was living with. Seeing the scared and helpless look on the other man’s face always causes a dull ache in Yunho’s chest. But the past belongs to the past and it was the last thing Jaejoong needs.

The only reason why no one is trying very hard to hunt Jaejoong down was because the man cannot remember the past. Without his memories, Jaejoong was a normal person and Yunho could keep him safe.

Fighting his urge to wrap the smaller man in his arms and hold him there forever, Yunho cleared his throat and thought of a reply that would not sound overly intimate.

“I may not know how you feel about your situation right now, but let me tell you this Mr Kim,” Yunho leaned forward so he had the full attention of those doe eyes, “Even if you do not remember the people who were dear to you, I am certain they still remember you and although you may not find who they are right away, know that you have an entire life ahead of you to meet them again. While you’re at it you can make more friends, find new loves and add to your family. As far as I’m concerned the whole world is your family, so don’t lose sleep over it......because do you know how bad you are at making coffee when you don’t have enough sleep?”

Jaejoong frowned immediately - coffee will forever be a sensitive topic between the two of them.

“Excuse me sir, but who do you think it is that makes me lose sleep half of the time?” he accused, “Your hectic changes of schedule, your stupid odd jobs that never needs to be done in the first place and your incomprehensible tastes in coffee.”

Jaejoong didn’t really know what happened, but at that moment he no longer felt as though he was making a smart remark to his superior, but rather, he felt as though he was having a laugh with a friend he had known for a long time. He must be getting used to Jung Yunho’s attitude, but he wasn’t going to admit that to anyone, not even himself.

Yunho opened his mouth to comment, but was interrupted when he caught someone hiding behind a tall pot plant near the door of the café. Turning, he saw a very cautious and frightened-looking girl watching Jaejoong as though the man was a hungry beast. Before he could think ill of the girl, Yunho recognized her as the receptionist and so did Jaejoong.

“Oh, hello,” Jaejoong waved the girl over, “So what room will I be staying in?”

From the look on the girl’s face, Yunho could tell she had no good news and he was about to warn Jaejoong when the girl dropped on her knees and held out a note with quivering hands.

“I tired my best sir,” she cried, “But my manager only told me to give you this note.”

Jaejoong calmly took the piece of paper and allowed the girl to run off. Thinking over his actions before, he concluded that maybe he had been a little unreasonable. He opened the note and read it.

Dear Jaejoong-sii,

Remember me? I’m your vice-president Tiffany, who has been overseas so much lately that I couldn’t do my best in protecting you from the idiocy of my oppa. On behalf my entire family, I would like to apologise for my stupid oppa and I really hope you can overlook his faults as the nice man you are.

Rather than helping you in any way, I’m afraid I’d beg for a favour and ask you to bear with my oppa some more. I have been informed of the change of course in your business trip and once again I apologise, obviously my brother can’t be up to any good.

I’ve booked out every single room in the resort you’re at except for one and I ask you to share that room with him. You see my brother is a HUGE playboy and he enjoys sleeping with prostitutes in secret. It would do my family huge shame if he was to get one of those women pregnant, so please keep an eye on him for me!

If you can do that for me, I promise to sort out all the mess over in New York :).

Kind regards,
Jung Tiffany.

Something about the note really, really ticked Jaejoong off. Without a word, he got up from his seat and left to check out the room that he now has to share with the idiot Jung Yunho. Sometimes he wonders if all his pain wasn’t actually caused by his president, but rather the people around him that he thinks are decent.

Yunho watched Jaejoong storm off, thankful that the man had pushed the ‘up’ button at the elevators rather than the ‘down’ button to go threaten the receptionist again. He read the note Jaejoong had dropped on the table and his eyes almost popped out of their sockets. Frowning he immediately called his sister.

“Yoboseyo?”

“You are in BIG trouble Jung Tiffany. I appreciate you efforts in trying to give me some quality time with Jaejoong while Changmin isn’t looking, but did you really have to make him think that I’m straight?”
