(Prologue)(Chapter ONE)(Chapter TWO)(Chapter THREE) Ch IV
God, this is too much to ask of anyone.
Yunho didn’t know how long he stared at the new teacher for, but he could register the surprise on the other’s beautiful face slowly shifting to one of annoyance. Taking a short breath, Yunho swallowed the sudden lump in his throat.
“Oppa, have you met sonsaeng-nim before?” the girl who in the neighbouring seat asked.
“What...?” Yunho was startled out of his thoughts, “Oh, uh, well...yeah....”
“Seriously?” Yoochun glanced up at him, “Where?”
“Uh...that’s...ah...” Yunho swallowed again. His familiarity with the new teacher wasn’t exactly something he could talk about.
“Could you please save the social chit-chat for later?” Jaejoong’s velvety voice suddenly cut through the awkward situation as he turned towards the blackboard, “Please take your seat, Yunho-sii, class is starting.”
The indifference in Jaejoong’s voice startled Yunho into obeying. This behaviour was certainly not the usual Kim Jaejoong, which can only mean one thing - Yunho was in a lot of shit.
The rest of class went by like any normal class...except for the fact that a certain Jung Yunho was trying not to sweat his hands off. He briefly registered that Jaejoong knew his stuff about literature and the notes he put on the board were some good ones, but other than that, Yunho really didn’t pay attention.
When the bell rang, Jaejoong clapped the chalk of his hands and beamed a dazzling smile at the class.
“That’s all for today,” he announced with professionalism in his voice, “In order to make up for the time we’ve lost, we’ll be charging full speed ahead tomorrow. Make sure you do your work and don’t get left behind.”
While the girls flocked after Jaejoong on his way out of the classroom, trying to convince him to stay, Yunho waited for a signal from the man. Even if Jaejoong was mad, he’d want to talk about it right? But Jaejoong did not even glance his way and disappeared down the corridor.
Yunho gripped at his desk. This can’t be good.
“Hey hyung, we’re gonna....”
Yunho shook Yoochun’s hand off his shoulder as he bolted from his seat, “Tell me later.”
Dashing out of the classroom, Yunho raced after the Jaejoong who was rounding the corner at the end of the corridor. Damn it!
“Jaejoong!” Yunho called, reaching a hand towards him.
What happened next made Yunho freeze in his tracks and feel weak at the knees. Jaejoong turned and glared at him.
“Who are you, again?” the glare faded into a forced smile which was just as scary, if not scarier, “I don’t recall knowing anyone in high school.”
Jung Yunho was a dead man.
“Um...I can explain...” Yunho’s voice was shaking as he watched the older man’s veins bulge in anger, “Well...not really...but....”
Glaring again, Jaejoong turned abruptly to leave, “I said, I don’t know any children, you idiot.”
“I-I-I’m sorry, Jaejoong, it’s just that...”
“I don’t want to hear it and call me sonsaeng-nim, you disrespectful brat.”
Yunho winced, but his attempt to reply to that was cut off by a group of giggling girls who approached them.
“Sonsaeng-nim, come talk to us,” they demanded.
“Oppa, it seems like you do know sonsaeng-nim,” one of them turned to Yunho, “How did you guys meet?”
“H-how...” Yunho glanced at Jaejoong and had to quickly look away.
With his back turned to the girls, Jaejoong was pretty much sending the younger man a death sentence through his eyes. Talk and I’ll kill you. Yunho got the message loud and clear - Jaejoong’s expression was livid and it was possibly the scariest thing he has ever seen.
“It’s a bit of an overstatement to say we know each other,” Jaejoong turned to the girls with that same forced smile, “We’ve only chatted at the hospital a few times, isn’t that right, Yunho-sii?”
“Uh..yes...right! The hospital,” Yunho quickly stuttered an agreement at Jaejoong’s glare, “I hurt my leg remember?”
The girls seem to buy to fib and started to chat with and tease Jaejoong instead. As Yunho watched the lively interaction, his initial worries were forgotten as an ugly feeling began to bubble from the pits of his stomach, threatening to boil over.
Yunho frowned. He could understand Jaejoong’s attraction, but need the girls act so familiar?
“Okay, okay. Back to class,” Jaejoong shooed the girls off when the bell went, “I have my next lesson to prepare for.”
Grudgingly the girls left. Once they were out of earshot, Yunho turned back to Jaejoong.
“Um...Jaej-...sonsaeng-nim...um....”
“You’re still here?” Jaejoong glared at him.
“But...”
Turning, Jaejoong thudded the textbook he was carrying against Yunho’s shoulder, “Come to the literature department at lunch, we’ll talk then.”
Yunho was overjoyed that the elder was going to give him a chance after all, “O...okay! I’ll be there! No matter what!”
“Humph, don’t look so excited,” Jaejoong smirked, “I look forward to hearing what kind of excuse you’re going to come up with.”
Yunho spent the rest of the day before lunch in a daze.
He was vaguely aware of the entire female population gossiping about how perfect Jaejoong was - what lovely skin he had, what beautiful eyes he had even hidden behind glasses, what silky hair he had, what a nice body he had, how good a kisser he looked etc. etc.
Then there was Yoochun going on about how annoying the girls were, Junsu teasing about how Yoochun was just jealous and Changmin concluding it was just sad that none of them had a chance against the new teacher.
If Yunho hadn’t been worrying so much about his excuse, he would’ve found himself immensely pissed with all the talk.
Then lunchtime came all too quickly. Once again ditching his confused friends without warning, Yunho paced for a minute in front of the literature department, then gathered up his courage to knock.
“K-Kim sonsaeng-nim?” he croaked, “Are you there?”
Jaejoong’s voice from a distance caught Yunho’s attention and he turned to brace himself for the worst, however, the sight of Jaejoong chatting happily with the school physician caught him off guard. He strained to hear their conversation.
“The girls are all over you,” the physician chuckled, “Looks like you’re famous already, Jaejoong-ah.”
“Yah, don’t tease me Hyun Joongie,” Jaejoong landed a playful punch on the other’s arm.
Everything about that little exchange got on Yunho’s nerves and he couldn’t help but glare.
“Yunn-...Yunho-sii,” Jaejoong said when he noticed the boy, “You’re already here? What happened to lunch?”
“I came here first, the cafeteria’s stuffed right now,” Yunho kept a level gaze with the physician.
“I see,” Yunho’s lack of attention on him irritated Jaejoong, “Well you should go eat. That’s what I’m about to do, so go away.”
“Come now, what are you saying?” Hyun Joong didn’t seem fazed by the exchange, “He’s already here, as a teacher you should give him priority.”
“But this punk has nothing special to say,” Jaejoong frowned.
“Jae, language, he’s a student!”
“I know him from before...unfortunately.”
Hyun Joong glanced between the two before him and decided whatever it was between them, he didn’t want to be caught in it.
“You know each other? Well it’s a small world after all,” he handed Jaejoong the cake they were going to share, “Take this, it’s for you, I’ll go eat in the cafeteria.”
“But...”
“It’s fine,” Hyun Joong turned his attention on Yunho, who was glaring harder than ever now, “Oh Yunho-sii, how’s the leg? Still visiting the hospital regularly?”
“Y-yeah...occasionally,”
“I see. If it starts hurting again, feel free to visit me at the clinic. Now, if you’ll excuse me.”
Truth to tell, Yunho knew the physician was a nice guy and that there was absolutely no reason for him to glare, but the puppy face Jaejoong was making as he reluctantly waved goodbye was really testing his control.
The moment the physician was out of sight, the atmosphere changed. Yunho could feel chills running up his spine as Jaejoong slammed the door of the literature department open. He followed without a word and closed the door behind them.
“Um...you’re friends with the school physician?” he attempted to start a conversation.
“He was my sunbae at school,” Jaejoong replied then busied himself with the documents on his desk.
The silence that followed soon got unbearable. Yunho reckoned since he was going to get shouted at either way, he might as well prompt it and get it over and done with.
“You said you’re a businessman, how come you’re a teacher? That’s illegal!” Yunho had a feeling he was going to regret saying that.
“What the hell? Can’t I have two professions?” Jaejoong removed his glasses with a scowl, “I’m certified to teach, do you have a problem with that? But you sir, on the other hand, is walking on thin ice.”
Yunho would’ve said ‘uh-oh’ had he been given the chance. In a minute, Jaejoong had his school tie in his hand and was yanking Yunho to eye-level by the neck. His beautiful face almost distorted by his anger.
“YOU LITTLE SNOT-NOSED PUNK!” Jaejoong didn’t bother to keep his voice down, “Twenty-one? Going to college? You’re nothing but a brat two years into high school! Why the hell did you lie?”
“B-because if I’d admitted I was seventeen you wouldn’t have taken me seriously!” Yunho defended, feeling the stretch of his tie taking his breath away.
“No shit, Sherlock!” Jaejoong was still pissed, “Fuck, what do they feed teenagers these days? You’re way too big for a seventeen-year-old!”
“See what I mean?” Yunho pulled a face, “You’re treating me like a kid. That’s why I lied...that day...I couldn’t just leave you there crying...and I felt that we shared a mutual bond of some sort.”
Yunho bit his lip, his real emotions surfacing even though he fought to keep them down. “I’ve always been dealing with my condition alone, when I met you I thought I’ve finally found someone to share my pain with. Have someone to support and have someone to lean on. I didn’t want to be rebuffed just for being in high school. Can you blame me...?”
The look in Jaejoong’s eyes was still doubtful, but he didn’t make any comment.
“That was the thing I’d ever lied to you about, I swear,” Yunho quickly added.
With a exasperated sigh, Jaejoong loosened his grip on Yunho’s tie. “Fine. Punching you now isn’t going to change anything. It’s partly my fault for not figuring it out. But you can’t tell anyone, I technically broke the law - doing all that stuff with a minor.”
“Does...does that mean you forgive me?” ecstatic happiness filled Yunho’s system as Jaejoong reached to fix the younger’s mussed clothes.
“I forgive you for lying, but...” Jaejoong looked up with sudden authority, “Do not come to my place ever again.”
That demand made Yunho’s chest clench so hard he almost wished Jaejoong was still mad at him.
“Don’t talk to me at school unless you have a question as a student,” Jaejoong continued in absolute seriousness, “Don’t even come near me if possible. From now on, we have nothing to do with each other and nothing ever happened between us. Got that?”
The frustration and panic he was feeling made Yunho jumpy. “What? Why?! It’s not like we were exchanging sex for money. I won’t tell anyone about us. Why can’t we stay the way we were?”
“Don’t be stupid, I’m not going to date a high-schooler! You know I prefer older men anyway, and money has nothing to do with it. Anyway, no more flings, Yunho-sii,” Jaejoong went to open the door and waited for Yunho to get out, “Game’s over.”
