Well my big news is that I am going back to UK and Europe! Next week!
I was planning to head back to London sometime this year, as I already had a return ticket all paid for. At the time I left the UK in late Novemeber it was just as cheap to buy a return ticket as it was a one way.
Only trick was that I had to get a flight to Auckland in order to catch my Korean Air flight out of the country. So just over a week ago I looked at what was available, and for some strange reason I could get a cheap flight on the 10th of August, but with flights being much more expensive for the couple of weeks after that. Bizzare! But as I haven't found a decent job here yet, there was no time to jump like the present.
Looking forward to catching up with my UK friends, especially
inquis The Plan: On Tuesday I get on a plane to Auckland at 11am. I then fly from Auckland to Seoul at 8.50pm reaching Incheon at 5.45 the morning of the 11th. At present I plan to stay a few days in Seoul, and definitely look into doing the tour of the dimilitarised zone/truce village tour on the border with North Korea. I am also going to email
muggie2 as it would be good to see how he is.
I fly out of Incheon airport at 1pm on Saturday 14th of August reaching Heathrow Terminal 3 on the same day at 16:55. Luckily I found my A to Z of Staines/Chertsey which will make it much easier to get to
inquis's place by bus. If anyone has a bus timetable handy and can tell me what bus/buses I need to get to get from Heathrow to Chertsey that would be handy.
I then start a four week
Busabout tour of Europe on the Tuesday, starting in London at 0745 - eek - may wimp out on early start and stay in london the night before - will see . All going to plan, I arrive back in the UK on Sept 13th. Looking forward to catch up with lots of people at the pub on the 16th! At the moment I am flying back to NZ (probably much poorer!) on the 19th of September (10:15pm), but I can change the date I am flying out if I need to. I only needed to buy a one way ticket back to NZ (about $1300NZ inc taxes) and my bus about pass. Flying direct to NZ through Singapore, arriving in Chch on the 21st September at 10:35am.
Getting quite excited planning my trip. Its an open ended bus tour, so you can decide how long you want to spend in each place. At the moment I am going through Paris, Bruge, Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague, Cesky Krumlov, Vienna, Budapest, Salsburg, Munich, Bern (would like to go to Geneva) Nice, Arignon, Barcelona, Madrid, San Sebastian, Bordeaux, Tours, Paris, London, . I might not stop at all those places, but it gives you an idea of my overall route. I have already been to Berlin and Prague, so I was quite pleased to discover some good day trips out of Prague, lots of cool medieval castles and stuff.
And yes, I expect to be updating my livejournal on the road, will probably use a mix of my public journal at
my website and this one.
