Good party last night

May 09, 2004 11:24

Went to a party in Wainui street last night. Tried a bit of an experiment and biked to the party, so I would not have problems getting home. There are late buses, but only one an hour and I have to catch two to get home. The ride was about 10km each way. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it only took me 45 minutes, making it faster than it ( Read more... )

Thanks will edit the spelling. As the old party flats were discussed last night, thought it would be a good time to lj them for posterity.

Ah yes, the bullet holes. Apparently one night two rival gangs decided to take pot shots at each other across the Whitely Ave/Lincoln Road intersection. Bizzare. I learnt last night it wasn't just bullet holes in the fence. A bullet went though Bagel's window - he didn't realise because he rarely opened the curtains!

I was at Idris Road for about 3 months before moving to Edgeware Road. Edgeware road was good spot - two bakeries less than 500m away - yum...:)

that wasn't bagel. it was a previous flatmate who on seeing the hole worked out that the bullet trajectory was directly in the path of where he used to study at his desk. head height no less. shudder!

It was Bagel's room. I moved into that room shortly afterwards (about a week or two), and Simeon and I helped the forensics cop dig the bullet out of the wall (we gave him coffee...) (I think it was 44 magnum, jacketless, probably S&W, from the look of it. Interesting, as it was a revolver bullet, whereas the witnesses to the driveby all stated that an automatic weapon was used, which ejected its bullets out the side, but no .44 automatics exist to my knowledge...) While Bagel's gear was still in the room, I backtracked the trajectory of the bullet, and had he been at his desk, sitting in front of the computer, it would have probably parted his hair before hitting the opposite wall. If he had been sitting bolt upright at his desk, it would have takent the top off his head, but as has been stated, he was in Wellington at the time, and tended to slouch anyway. But anyway, it was Bagel who was renting that room when the shooting occurred. I was the one who moved in after him, and worked out the bullet trajectory. One of the other ( ... )

Hi Zane,
thanks for that. story I heard the other night talked about the position of the desk when a previous flatmate was there. from what you said it is likely the desk was in the same place when bagel was there. It was certainly a bizzare incident for little old chch. Did not know about the bystander, glad to hear that she survived - the last thing you would expect innocently driving around chch!

Ask Doth about the woman in the car, they know each other through ante-natal classes I think. She was pregnant at the time as far as I remember. Woman and Doth.

And you forgot to lise the Maxwell street flats! Muggie2's most infamous abode. (Happiest memories so far!)

You want the stories about the exploding homebrew?

Also, to expand on the "innocent bystander during shooting by Watchtower" story. The bullet went into the car, into Jennifer and was stopped by bone before hitting vital organs. Fortunately. I met Jennifer through Plunket. Her son Curtis was six weeks prem. He was still in hospital at the time of the shooting, although Jennifer had already been sent home. She and her husband were on their way in to see him when she got shot.
