It's the first day of classes. I teach from 2-3:15, then go straight into my two-hour oral exams at 3:30.
I am strangely calm. I am not as prepared as I would like to be, but sometime late last night I realized that would be true at any point - because "as prepared as I would like to be" means knowing absolutely everything about all 110 works on my list, as well as their reception histories, author's lives, and general history around their publication, plus a near-perfect recall of the actual words. That's...not really a workable goal. So I'm as prepared as I think I can reasonably be.
Plus, there's really not much I can do about it now. Which makes me feel rather at peace about the whole thing. Either way, it will be over soon.
I'm going to go print out my syllabi, review my day-of notes and definitions, teach a class and take this exam.
Rock on.
