A whole new world...

I am officially employed. I am a full-time administrative assistant at a law office in Burlington. I have a desk, an extension, a company email address, keys to the building, a voicemail greeting, a health savings account, vacation time and sick days, and a retirement plan (investments? Moi?). I feel unspeakably adult, especially when returning home to my gorgeous apartment, nice roommate, and fiber-optic wireless (sweet!). Also, I've become the kind of person who, in a restaurant, has an answer to the question "Were you thinking more of a Chardonnay or a Pinot Grigio?" (Answer: Pinot Grigio)
But, fortunately, although I do work in a law office I work in one where everyone seems to have an active sense of humor and value a reasonably relaxed workplace. Also, as it's primarily an environmental law office, it's good work being done there. And I feel that I'm already developing a camaraderie.

Me: So when I send out the Certificate of Service to these people, I'm basically sending them something that says "I certify that I sent you the thing I just sent you"
Clara, the other administrative assistant: Well, it's really so they can all see who's gotten the letter...
Geoff, a lawyer: Yeah, Certificates of Service ARE pretty pointless

Brian, the paralegal: Wow...all the expert witnesses have really impressive resumes.
Me: Yeah, that's why they're experts.
