I have had such a great past few days with my new friend Benedikt. Benedikt was subletting my roommate Brendon's room while he was in Brazil. He's 24, German, and a phenomenal drummer. Moved here from Germany several months ago on a full scholarship to Berklee; dropped out because the school and Boston both suck, moved to NY, and soon to move to LA. We really liked each other right off the bat but only in the last week did we start hanging out a lot. It's been so wonderful. Couple nights ago we went on an 18 mile bike ride, from Greenpoint down to Prospect Park (where we had pizzas and saw Fantastic Mr. Fox) over the Manhattan Bridge to Penn Station, down to Lower East Side for Stogo's vegan coconut milk ice cream, over Williamsburg bridge back home. We went to my friends Joy and Nikki's place for Thanksgiving, a lovely lovely laid back potluck. We've spent the past several afternoons by the water at the Hudson River Park on the Lower West Side, practicing drums together on a pad, creating exercises (alternating straight with triplets, and each time we play triplets alternating them as singles, doubles and triples; alternating triplets with quintuplets; etc). We've been spending far, far too much money on amazing food. Tonight we saw Jacque Tati's M Huron's Holiday, a childhood favorite movie of his. He knew every moment by heart, it was a beautiful movie made more so by his age-old fondness for it. He's so exuberant and full of life and fire, it's kinda contagious. He's been a really good influence and such good company. He moves to LA in a couple weeks. I am sending him straight to Tiger. Tiger is going to eat him up.
