One day, I can't be bothered updating this thing. The next day, something interesting happens and I think "I should really put this on LJ", but then I realise that would entail then updating with whatever I couldn't be bothered updating with previously. And so it snowballs until eventually it comes to this: random time. I'm just gonna throw in here whatever comes to mind, whenever it comes to mind. This might be my longest yet; it might be just this paragraph. Who knows?
Anyway.
I was at the Church of Scotland's General Assembly a few weeks ago. It was aaawesome. I really enjoyed living alongside Christians my own age with silly quirks and interesting views of their own. Apparently this year was considerably "cliquier" than previous years. I did notice this, but I kinda figured it had always been that way. My group consisted of me, Kayleigh (who initially reminded me sooo much of Alison), James (grandson of my Sunday School "boss"), Ruth (the annoying yet endearing singer) & Jason (the outrageously gay one). I think we were the most close-knit, there only being five us of with three or four noticeable groups among 42 youth reps (how odd that I chose to type only 42 as a number).
So, yeah, it was a very moving experience. I've really begun to feel the presence of God after being there and feeling a true part of the community. We even stopped to talk to a homeless person and I patted his dog!
The debates in the actual Assembly Hall were really good, too. I mean, some of them didn't interest me in the slightest and I'll admit that, but there were others that just gripped me. There was a good bit of humour in it, too. The Lord High Commissioner started his opening speech with, "My name is George Reid and I am a recovering sinner", which provoked a good bit of laughter. And when one of the former Moderators had to take over for an hour or so and business was going through debate-lessly he was like, "This being Moderator of the General Assembly; there's nothing to it!". Had to be there, but it was all great. I was even going to speak at one point when they were debating whether or not to have the Church (specifically the Mission & Discipleship council, I think) produce its own Sunday School learning materials, rather than us always outsourcing everything. Problem was, that was the one day I forgot my ID card, which was necessary for speaking into the microphones. Oh, well. Next year. =D
Oh, and I was on TV! I was just sitting there while a woman near me spoke about capital punishment, but it was an abnormally good shot of me. Mo stood out the most because she was right next to the woman and she looked like she was asleep! Really what she was doing was trying not to laugh because she knew she was on camera, but I'll bet that's not what the nation thought. XD
Seriously, I could have lived like that for a LOT longer than a week. I'd've needed to have taken a couple of people with me, though.
Jay & I have generally been meeting up every second Sunday over the last few months. We've had some great laughs and I'm really glad he's stuck by me; he always was the best one, after all.
The idea this Sunday seems to be revolving around bowling. I'm thinking me, him, Loli and Mandie at XScape but I'll need to call him to get some more organised talking on the go. Should be good, regardless.
Our birthdays are about a month away now. Still can't think of something to get him. Plenty of naff and some good-enough ideas, but I want something awesome. Also, a side-note: I don't wanna be twenty! D=
Loli and I are doing brilliantly. Every time I think we've gone as far as we can get, I take another look and find I've grown even closer to her. We've had our quiet, cuddly days; our exciting days out and about; family days and, um... well, all sorts. Buckets of KFC, too!
Her last school show starts tonight. I'm going tomorrow night and I'm reeeally looking forward to it. The only thing I know about Oliver is that line "Please, sir, can I have some more?", so it should be interesting.
This Sunday marks my church's first Youth Service. We've picked the hymns, written the prayers and the sermon and we've got some other risky things on the go. I am absolutely SHITIN' MASELL, but hopefully my fears will be eased when we have our practice run on Saturday. One good thing is because it's my gran's birthday, I can just walk up to the lectern myself and get the congregation to sing "Happy Birthday" as we always do when the minister announces a birthday.
In other Churchy news, I'll be going to the Youth Assembly in September. It's like the General Assembly, but it's just a Friday-to-Monday thing, it's a lot more relaxed and it's just for the youth of the church to debate. I think pretty much everyone I know from General Assembly will be going, so I cannot wait.
I think that's it, then. I made a Bebo, by the way. None of the folk from GA had MySpace, so I had no choice. Made a Facebook while I was at it, too, but that's not really interesting so it's just kind of sitting there.
Until next time. (stole your line, Joe =P )
