What a predictable day. I was right: same thing over and over again. It'll be that way for a long while before I get to do anything slightly better (woo, a smidgen of variety, raise the frickin' roof).
Today was just about Jamal (who likes to be called "Jay", but no way he's getting that) and I getting to grips with the workplace, its surroundings and the repetitive task at hand. He's a pretty cool guy and we had a good laugh for the initial five or six hours when we were together.
We got talked to and talked to and talked to, then went for lunch. I'd made myself sandwiches in case the food was crap, which it was. Jamal had some veg roll thing. That took 10 minutes of an hour break, so we decided to head into town for a look around. To get out of the building, we needed to wait for someone to come along, as we didn't have security passes yet. Sure enough, someone came, I asked for help and he kindly obliged. What he did not do was swipe his card again on the other side of the door, which meant the system wouldn't allow him to use his card to leave on his own. "That's what ya get when ya fuck with us!" -- Jamal.
Wearing my duffle coat, carrying my backpack, in a mall: déjà vu up my arse. We went from one end to t'other, got bored and returned to work with twenty bleedin' minutes to spare. We wasted those sitting in the "lounge" area watching that Channel 5 game show where they split up words and mix the sections around.
Our first task was putting letters into envelopes. Woo. Then we were shown how to authorise people's bank transactions. That was initially more interesting, but then it got dull when we realised that it was what we would be doing day in, day out for some time.
So, yeah, that was my first day. Jamal and I will be getting proper training tomorrow, apparently.
I'm gonna be getting home from work at about 7pm every night, so seeing my friends will be damned near impossible since Saturday will be the only day I can get a decent amount of time with Loli and I spend a great deal of Sunday with my grandparents.
Must. Learn. To. Drive!
