i have to say that david finckel (the cellist) had the most energy about him. the dvorak had a lot of little bits of ornamentation in the cello piece -- i ''read'' them as little musical jokes -- perhaps in part because after he played one, he would tilt his head slightly and wear a different grin, indicating that he was haivng a splendid time.
i have a new favourite piece of music: shostakovich piano trio, op. 67. it was positively titillating. if you had seen me after the piece, you would notice that i was metaphorically stuck on the floor. i believe in the vernacular this would be written "i was floored by the performance."
why have i never listened, really listened, to shostakovich? i'm sure as hell going to now.
