first kitchen is a fast food place you can find all over Tokyo (except for when i have a craving for their tapioca float, in which case i can never seem to find one). their food isn't particularly noteworthy but the nickname is XD in true japanese fashion, they like to shorten the long complicated "first kitchen" into something with like 2 syllables... so first = fa and kitchen = kin... and together you get "fakkin" XD

this is where the hilarity ensues! instead of saying something like "let's go to first kitchen" it'll end up as something more along the lines of "let's go fakkin!" or "i really like first kitchen" will be totally different as "i really like fakkin" XD i died laughing when steve told me and andrew this while walking to omotesando.

OMG, sunscreen is expensive in japan =_= i think it was like 600-700yen for a tiny 30ml bottle (dude, i know it's spf50 but i'll use up 30ml in like one day!) on the other hand, sunscreen is not something i want to cheap out on, especially since i'm already burned XD gotta go around and find the cheapest place i can get a decent sized bottle of sunscreen without breaking the bank!

second hand books on the other hand are like a steal here! even english ones! i just bought the whole set of the eva-school manga (which is only 4 volumes long XD) for less than 1000yen! they're in like mint condition, even better than library books! (though now i have a double of volume one and apparently it's not worth the hike to resell books back to book-off... so maybe i can try selling it back home?)

i love how i always seem to discuss food with intern owner XD i think i can ramble about that since it's something easy to relate to for both of us (it was interesting talking about my gaming interests while at izakaya). i was asking her if fruits are always so expensive or they're seasonal like in canada. fruits really are just that expensive and you gotta find them small local supermarkets for the cheap stuff (which i've tried and i'm either not looking in the right places or they still aren't as cheap as i'm used to... could be both) or move to the country-side XD

on the plus side, even though i am so totally vitamin deficient from my lack of fruits (veg is okay, i manage to eat a decent amount), the supermarket near the station has warabimochi flour~~ i bought a bag of the stuff so now i just need to go to the dollar store to invest in a sieve/sifter (can i use them as one and the same?) and i can try to make warabimochi tonight~~ watch me screw up spectacularly in ways only i can manage XD

i think i can actually afford to eat out more if i really spend as little on groceries and misc. stuff as i think i do XD gotta check receipts and stuff for this month first though, but i was doing the math during lunch and if i eat food that cost about 800yen per meal, it's only going to cost me about 30000yen a month for food (assuming i get lunch paid for weekdays) which works out to like 7500yen a week. not too bad for eating out every meal XD

i can't believe it's been more than a month since i've arrived! time really seems to fly (i find that happen more and more often as i'm getting older and man doesn't that make me sound old) i will work hard to find a real paying job so i can extend my visa for another 6 months XD

edit: wth, i feel like i'm starving all the time >< maybe i just feel like munching on something but i'm not actually hungry... it's gotten really bad in the middle of the night when i get the munchies >
