Okay read this?
"On 5 December 2005, the Civil Partnership Act (2004) came into effect in the United Kingdom. The law is a major milestone towards equality for gay and lesbian British nationals.
Civil partnership registration allows same sex couples to have their relationship legally recognised under UK law. By registering their relationship it gives them the same rights as a married couple in areas like tax, social security, inheritance and workplace benefits.
The Act also applies to British nationals living in Australia who are able to register a civil partnership, with either another British national or the citizen of another country.
Civil partners will have equal treatment under UK law in a wide range of legal matters with married couples, "
http://bhc.britaus.net/Consular/consulardefault.asp?id=682 Yep thats right, you can have your UK style queer marriage in Australia..
And now for some news.
Me & Cath are getting married at the British High Commission in Melbourne.
Or civil partnered, whatever.
She's dual UK/Australian citizen. Our kids & us will have recognition and rights across much of Europe.
Yeah I know I'm from non marryin' folk, don't really dig marriage and quite like how I get way more financial benefits living under a homophobic regime that doesn't recognise our relationship. BUT it is some form of legal recognition for us and our children in at least some places in the world (even if not my home country) conveniently somewhere we will be living in after I graduate.
Its something. Its a start.
Dammit after nearly 8 years and 3 kids and fuck knows all that we've been through we deserve some kid of recognition
Low key registry office do, nothing fancy, we'll be applying ASAP. Forms & fees and all that crap.
The 14 day wait...
Then we're getting hitched. Our kids will be there, plus we need two adult witnesses.
We're very excited, to say the least.
